Any chance as a legacy?

Don’t worry… keep your head up. You will do great wherever you go :)

thanks bro

what do the experienced members think?
pls read whole thread for all information

I got in with better stats. Legacy will help with the weaker parts of your app but your senior year killed it. Sorry.

ya ok
could they ever excuse such a senior year
is there even a way to send in an explanation

It depends how rigorous and your rank is during the mid senior year. if it’s high then it’s okay. If low then there’s a problem. and legacy counts as something if your parents or whoever went was a major contribution.

no major money contribution

my school is very competitive
As in 15 nm finalists per year out of 100

so ya
we don’t officially rank

If they feel like they really want you, they might waitlist you and contact you to see if your still interested. If you say yes, they will review your 2nd semester grades and make a decision. So try to get really really good grades 2nd semester. Just keep your head up and don’t let your GPA fall again. Good Luck.

thanks!
I’m already off to a great start 2nd semester!

centennial, so they actually do that?

Yea. They have for the previous years, and they’re not the only school. My cousin had around a 3.5ish until his 2nd semester of junior year where he really messed up. He got waitlisted and he got a call around May 20 saying if he was still interested and if he was he had to submit his transcript. And after extensive re review of his app he would get a decision. He got in and now he’s a junior at Chicago, so don’t give up hope just yet. He wasn’t even legacy so legacy really helps you.

Ohh I saw that someone told you to apply EA to Chicago. You probably would have gotten deferred because Chicago doesn’t consider legacy in EA. I asked in August when I was applying.

did you apply to a safety school?

ya I have several safeties
uc riverside, Santa Barbara
irvine
northeastern (got into honors with scholarship)
and yeah

wow really centennial?
that’s great! Maybe I still have a chance
How was your cousin in other areas of his application?

I don’t know if Boston university would be a safety

Can get in but gpa and EC are lacking
Legacy helps
Sat is awesome
Chance me back

U Chicago: Reach

How good were your essays?

He had a lower SAT score than you did (2210) and he only reallly had two ec: varsity baseball and mock trial since those took up so much time. He took the hardest classes available and his essays were actually pretty good. I looked at them a few months ago and it really showed who he was. So as long as your essays really define who you are, then you’re good.

I would like to think my essays were very good. I don’t really know how I would
know that. But, I think I’m an extremely good writer (percentile-wise, even among Chicago applicants, but I didn’t really revise mine too much and actually never got a second opinion, other than on here).

centennial, apparently there’s a college who’s asking for my current grades thus far 3rd quarter and my teacher hinted at Chicago.
If so, this is good, but it all depends on how my teacher reports are. I think it’s more of a written thin they’re looking for.

If it’s Chicago then that’s really good news. It means they’re interested!(:
I hope your Q3 grades are high though. Good Luck.

well Q3 has barely started
my counselor has to send in a report this week
I have to talk to y teachers
surely they don’t wanna screw me over
