Reach. (But possible, depending on essays and level of involvement in your ECs/leadership.)

the OP stats seem decent ... :)

KrazyKow I am not up on CMU stats and was curious why you felt the
OP stats were a reach.... gpa/sat/academics/.... ??

given that the CMU form seems to have
had an entire section devoted to communtiy/volunteer service last year
I was wondering if this is a major 'dis/qualifying' component for
applicants...

I would say it's a good match. But it really depends on what school you're applying to.

good scores, but your GPA is low... severe grade deflation?

in
10 char.

What college will you be applying to?

You don't seem very remarkable. What's your class rank? Tell us more about your high school.

Given CMU's admission trends, this is going to be a reach school for you unless you have some secret art, drama, or writing talent. H&SS will be the easiest to get into, followed by MCS, CIT, Tepper, and finally SCS. I can't speak for CFA.

What I'm getting at is that you're bright, but it takes a little more than bright. How will you stand out ON PAPER? By the way, I recommend getting an interview on campus if you happen to visit.

Overall, your stats are pretty good and with CMU's range; GPA is a bit on the low side. But there isn't anything among them that sticks out as making you a unique candidate. It also depends on what school you're applying to.

i am applying as a chemistry major to MCS, im thinking of doing early decision. Does anyone know how good the chem program at CMU is?

Hahaha... sciences are not the strongest at CMU. They are by no means bad, but their CS and Engineering departments really outshine the sciences. Try ChemE, if this is of concern to you. [Shouldn't be though]

REALLY good scores there buddy. Fairly poor GPA.

What's your weighted GPA? Class rank?

And cmonyuk, you say a hidden skill in writing will help applicants? That's good for me, because I'm a fairly good writer.

Writing skill will help, but that's not what I meant. What I meant is that your application is a piece of paper. As it stands, I wouldn't say that [the original poster] looks very remarkable on paper, but [he/she] might be remarkable in real life. [He/she] should try to fix that by writing a good essay that gives a feel of what kind of person [he/she] is and maybe interview to add a face to [his/her] name.
