WGPA: 3.75
Rank: 72/538
SAT I: 760CR, 780M, 800W (retaking, but I doubt it'll make much of a difference if I go up)
SAT II: 780 Math II, 760 Chem, 710 Lit

Which cmu school are you applying to? Your class rank is a little low ( relatively speaking), do you go to a very competitive hs?

Why are you retaking a 2340 SAT? Odds are they'll go down. Even if they didn't, I don't think it would make much difference for any school. If I were an admissions person I might even wonder what would possess someone with scores like that to waste the time and money.

Considering your course schedule, you have pretty good chances at Carnegie Mellon.
Your ECs and class rank are a little weak but your course schedules, SAT scores, and AP Scores are quite impressive.

Depending on school:

SCS: high match/slight reach
Tepper: high match
CIT: match
H&SS: low match

For CS his score is below 75th (75th is 800). I don't think an extra 20 points will make a diff. but fi yuow ant to retake your amazing score go right ahead. You will def. get into engineering/mcs/h&ss and I would put you as likely (75%) for scs. Best of luck, and I may see you there next year.

I'm not at all bragging. My score is below the 75th percentile at CMU. Given my GPA isn't the best and the hordes of 800's on SAT math applying, I see no (objective) reason as to why they would admit me over someone with an 800 Math 2/800 Reasoning Math, better grades, and more glowing recs.

Seriously, anybody who wants to be a (respectable) computer scientist should have no trouble with the SAT Math problems, but I apparently did =/

You may be right but I think 780 and 800 are interchangeable. If you're not accepted I doubt it will be for your scores. I agree with you gpa may be problematic but good AP scores could offset that. Still I would call SCS a reach. It is for most people though. Same for Tepper if you're applying there, engineering prob high match. Hope it works out for you.

People on this forum are SO obsessed with statistics. If you're rejected, it's because you suck as a person and they don't want you at their school. Do you really think getting 20 more points in math is going to bring you up?

Just because >25% of SCS applicant get an 800 on the math section of the SAT doesn't mean that's what the admissions office is looking for - I'd guess anything over 750 is fine. A 780 is *one *wrong answer. It's just that most students who apply to SCS do very well in math. My son got in with a 770M, for what it's worth and he didn't consider retaking it.
