Any chance for Nursing...low GPA?

I did poorly my sophomore year (3-C's and 1-D), due to some personal circumstances that have been resolved. My junior year I did much better and senior year all A's so far.

My UW GPA is a 3.21 and W 4.02
ACT 29--took it again and am waiting on results, but am confident I did even better.
Top 1/3 of class
Semi-rigorous schedule (5 AP's, lots of honors).

I would like to major in nursing and would love to apply to Clemson. Be straight with me, do I have a chance at all? I have a application budget I need to stick to, so if I really have no shot, won't waste money applying.

I think you’ve got a shot at getting in since your grades are on an upward trend and you’ve taken tough classes. Probably won’t get accepted to nursing though since that is very competitive. Your ACT score will probably make the difference with your application (and it’s not a bad score but you probably need to get it up to make it up for your GPA)

ACT score went up to a 31. Anyone else have any opinions on if I have a chance?

Uh, male and nursing, and you’re worried :)

That’s a hook, like being an athlete or a legacy.

However, be forewarned, it is likely even if you are not targeting it, you will be pushed towards jobs where you have to physically handle patients, especially mentally ill or developmentally disabled patients.

One of my friends is a big guy, about 6’2" 250 lbs. pretty muscular not fat, and he was studying to be a special education teacher. He wanted to teach young kids, pre-K and K, and his teachers kept trying to push him towards working with teenagers and adults because if “anything happened”, he could handle the situation better than a person with smaller stature. Same thing I’ve heard from male nurses I know.

(there is a lot of administration potential in nursing, as well as research potential, as well as specialized nurses such as oncology nurses and nurses that assist in surgeries)

Good luck!

Clemson has 40 nursing majors in their freshman class…it’s extremely tough to get into (and I highly doubt gender has anything to do with their decision if they don’t look at stuff like ethnicity).

31 is a good score for Clemson so hopefully that helps you out! Still unsure of what that means for nursing since it is so competitive (I know a bunch of people who have transferred in later on though if you would consider that)

Good luck!
