I am an international student who is very interested in enrolling to McGill and I am currently starting my senior year. However, my first 3 years of high school aren't at all great. My overall GPA for grade 10 is below a 3.0 (Weighted), my overall weighted GPA for grade is 2.84 with the second semester being my best: 3.27. Is it still possible for me to be admitted in Engineering if I work extra hard this year?

Here's my grades in more detail:
Grade 11: Second semester
AP Psychology = B-
AP English Language and comp = B-
French = B+
General Physics = B-
IB Math Studies Year 1 = B

This year I will be taking:
AP Chemistry
AP Physics B
AP English literature and composition (Online)
IB Math Studies Year 2

SAT I
SAT II (Maths Level 2, Physics)

What grades should I get to be considered? I know IB Math Studies isn't enough, but can AP Chemistry and AP Physics be used as a replacement for IB Math SL? My school doesn't offer senior level Math and I did a mistake to not move to Maths SL in the beginning of grade 11.

McGill has a very simple application. They do not care about extracurriculars. They care about grades and test scores. They take the students with the best grades. GPA’s are cummulative so even with a very successful year you still may not make the cut. That being said, work hard, try your best, and good luck to you. Just realize that McGill may not be a feasible option, though you could try and apply anyway. Sorry if this is harsh.

If my S wanted to get into biological sciences and he got mainly A in 10th, a B in 11th and an A in 12th, would he still not get have a chance? His ACT surpasses their requirements (33).

Perhaps, he could apply under a different major and switch? How does switching majors work at McGill.

My son just finished his first year at McGill. With your son’s grades he shouldn’t have a problem. They really only care about grades and scores and they even break that down. My son is at the business school and his reading and writing scores weren’t that high but his math and science scores were 34 and 33. Since he wanted business he was okay. As long as your son’s scores in the sciences and math are in the upper range, it looks like he is good to go. You cannot transfer into the business or engineering school if you weren’t accepted into those programs but you can transfer out of them into Arts and Sciences, but remember that the Art and Science program gets the most applicants while the business and engineering programs are the most competitive. Good Luck! My son LOVES it there!

@singita Thanks for your input. I do not think my son meets the McGill requirements (GPA wise) off by a bit, and my question was whether or not McGill would make an exception for a better ACT score?
