Any chance of getting into a college of engineering?

I have a 3.0 gpa and a 24 ACT score. I am also a Hispanic girl with hopes in going into Civil or Biomedical Engineering at Purdue, but most likely won't. Any other suggestions in "good" universities that may accept me?

Just to add in, I completely love Math and Science with math being my strong point. Main thing is that junior year was really difficult due to personal problems.

how about Wright state university or Cleveland State university?
they are a good start, you can transfer later.

What is your home state?
How much can you / your family afford to pay?

I live in Illinois. Not completely sure of how much my parents can pay at the moment, but certainly a bit less than half a typical IL tuition.

Purdue has gotten to the point where getting in to any of their good majors is a roulette spin unless one is OOS and full freight. A far cry from my days there not too long ago.

Have you looked at SIUE/SIUC? We’ve hired quite a few people from SIUE and were quite happy with them (EE’s and CS’s).

First of all, you do not need to get into the college of engineering. Just apply undecided and get into the college first. Take the required class, get high GPA then you can apply to the engineering college in your first or second year.

With your current ACT and GPA, good engineering Universities you can get into are:

Iowa State University(highly recommended, cheap out of state tuition, I almost went there)
University of Illinois- Chicago (low OOS tuition)

Is there anyway you can increase your ACT to at least a 27 ?

I am pretty sure you could get into:

Penn State
Purdue U(yes Purdue)
University of Minnesota(low OOS tuition)

Make sure your family has the money to pay at least 25k per year if you are looking at expensive out of state public’s.

Investigate South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, a public university in Rapid City, SD. Very rigorous and reputable Engineering departments. Also rated the one of the best educational bargains in the USA.

I second LakeWashington. SDSMT is a great school, and if you can get your ACT up to a 25, you get automatic admission. It’s also the only school in the country where the average starting salary is higher than the total cost of four years of attendance. Only downside is that it’s strictly math and science.

At many schools, changing into the engineering division can require a highly competitive admissions process requiring a very high college GPA. Students who choose this route should be willing to do a non-competitive-admission backup major.

SD Mines is very low cost. SD State has engineering degree programs and is even less expensive.

Ok, just got my transcript back and figured out that I have a 2.9 instead of a 3.0. What do you think I should do? CC is not an option.

Why not?
You can apply to a few, but I think you’ll be a bit low on merit scholarships with a 2.9 GPA.
