My essays should be strong, and so should my recommendations.

you def have a chance. But the trick for getting in out of state is to have something different about you. You have to write an essay that stands out and convey to them something that they want. Because stats wise you are right in line, but not so above that you will get in solely on those. Make sure you apply EA tho.

ok thanks. do you think music is a good topic for my essay, as its incredibly important and time consuming in my life?

great chance.
But if you keep up that pessimism, perhaps not.

lol

i guess so? im trying not to get my hopes up, but i fell in love with chapel hill when i visited a couple weeks ago.

well make it an essay about music that is memorable. Maybe how your passion for music has transcended onto various aspects of your life or something along those lines. Say how music has impacted you or you learned something from music and how thats played a role in other stuff you have done in your life

You can write about any topic, just pick one that you actually care about. As long as you care about your subject matter, you'll write a great essay.

I might actually veer away from writing about music because they can tell from your ECs that you're passionate about it. Take the essay as an opportunity to show them something else about you - something that they can't see from ECs or scores, etc.

^^i think that's great advice. you want your essay to show them WHO you are, not necessarily what you do, since that's evident in other parts of your application.

wow thanks guys.

well i guess i have to think about topics for my essay now.
