It would seem you certainly have a fighting chance! Just remember that there is no shortage of qualified applicants like yourself, and that Brown seems to look for character as well in considering applications. And also, none of us on this board can give a truly informed opinion of how admissions will receive you. :)

As far as your credentials...they are excellent. However, Brown's very important admissions factors include things such as "character/personal qualities." Therefore, while your test scores and class rank might be great, they may be looking for something else. Here are their admissions priorities from collegeboard.com:

yes, im a junior.. it actually is my top choice, but i have a legacy to penn. and i heard that they give GREAT preference to legacys during ED, so thats why im confused. becuase i probably only have a 30% chance of getting in brown

I pretty much just made up the 30%... And I heard that legacys are favored heavily for ED (for Penn), and I was just wondering if it didn't look like i had a good chance for brown if i should apply to Penn ED so i could at least go there

I don't know, but it seems to be you might be going about this the wrong way. Where do you really want to go Penn or Brown? Where do you see yourself happily spending four years? I think you should be thinking about what excites you about each school rather than where statistically you might have better odds. I, for one, would rather give my best shot to my true first choice over playing it safe and never knowing if I could have got in. But that's me, everyone needs to do what he/she feels most comfortable with.

If Brown is your first choice, apply there ED. If you get waitlisted, apply to Penn; it's not like your legacy status will change. Someone from my school with worse grades and less extracirriculars than you got into Penn, so I wouldn't fret about it. And Brown is wayyy cooler than Penn anyway.

write a kickass essay, get good reccomendations, and hope for the best; since it's the end of junior year, there isn't much left you can do (they won't see your first semester senior grades, and you are already taking a hard schedule next year, which they will like). another thing you can do, which they like to see, but isn't crucial, is do something worthwhile with your summer. an internship, an academic summer program (it's not too late to apply to summer@brown!), something like that.

my advice is to call the swim coach and swim for brown, unless you don't want to. if you're a recruit, for anything, you'll get in with those stats....

Your stats are good enough that you'd have a decent chance at Brown if you applied, so you should give it a shot and do ED. I'd suggest a) contacting coaches and b) doing overnights at Penn and Brown in the fall.
