Any college I can get into with a 3.85 UW?

So I just got back my report card today!!! I got a B in IB english because I got an 89.4!!!!!!!! (with an A being 89.5 since most teachers round up) The best part is that this is the third time out of my 4 Bs that I've been within 0.2 points to an A!!!! My SAT score is also average at best (around 2000), so is there any top school that I even have a chance at? From what I've seen on CC, everyone that got into good schools like Emory and stuff had a 3.9 AT LEAST with a 2200+, so is there any school in the top 20 I can get into with scores like what I have right now? I'm soooo mad. I'm extremely depressed :(

I should hope this post is sarcasm. If it is not, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. 3.85 is a beyond fantastic GPA, and considering that the average SAT score nationwide is 1500 out of 2400, it is a bit of a stretch to call a 2000 "average at best."

Is there any top 20 school (as defined by USNews I presume) you can get into? Probably. Is there any "good" school that you can get into? Most definitely. There are over 2700 colleges and universities in the country, only a very very small handful would even consider rejecting you.

You should be depressed. You'll never get in anywhere now.

^^ agreed. Community college for you, mhm.

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT
SAT scores of 1900-2000 are 88-93 percentile -- certainly not average.

sorry but I disagree with you just_browsing. If you look at any of the top 20 schools, I would bet that probably all of them have an average GPA of 3.9. And besides, who isn't to say that my GPA could drop down farther? Right now I have a 3.89 probably, but what if I do bad again and my GPA drops down to a 3.8, then I'm definately screwed. If anyone can show me a top school that someone with a 3.8 2000 can get into, let me know, because I'm really freaking out right now

well i believe you were already told you were wrong and you argued it...ill tell you right now my final gpa (though with an upward trend) was "only" about a 3.75uw and im going to swarthmore next year

have fun at mickey d's you big loser.

By definition of "average," half of the students have below a 3.9.

By the way, that's a very nice grading scale. You needed a 93+ to get an A at my high school.

According to US News the 25-75 percentile for Math/Verbal SATS for Cornell is 1290-1480, for Brown is 1330 – 1540, for Columbia it's 1340-1540. With 2000 for all three, you are probably in the range for these math/verbal scores, or pretty close.

Or are these three (all ivy-league) not top schools?

Plus there are many more excellent universities and lacs where you could certainly get in (depending on ecs, etc.).

Okay - screw this 'average SAT' stuff - when one applies to an ivy, they're not competing with the 'average students,' they're competing against the top... Just because the 'average' is 1500, doesn't mean that is the REAL average for competitive schools. Your SAT scores are really fine - take practice tests to improve.

your pathetic need for unnecessary reassurance is wasting everyones time.

Amen Im On A 7point Grade Scale Also... You Guys Have It So Easy!

Lol.. I had a 3.73 UW GPA and got into Duke, but my weighted GPA put me in the top 5%, I had the toughest courseload out of anyone in my grade, and had a 1550 on the Math & Verbal sections of the SAT. I also had decent leadership/academic EC's..

UW GPA isn't the end-all when it comes to college admissions!

Well, a 2000 is low for the top 20 schools in the country. Why is everyone relating the OP's test scores to the national average. The poster is aiming for the TOP 20 schools in america. Your GPA, on the other hand, is fine and provided that you have taken a rigorous course load will not hurt you in the admissions process (although it will not help you accept at the back end of the top 20). You have a solid shot at schools that just crack the top 20 but you will have to make up for your SAT scores with extra-curriculars in order to have a shot at the top 10 (which would be a long shot given your numbers).

Just b/c you're on a 7 pt scale d/n make it easier...

Lucky.. at my school 89.5-92.4 is usually A- which equals 3.66...

But you also get B+'s instead of B's for 86.5-89.4.

Same w/ me.

Consider Hamburger University.
