Do you guys expect that there'll be a tremendous incr in the number of transfer appl. like what happened w/ the 1st yr appl. to Columbia engineering this year? According to the stats given in the Columbia Spectator, the selectivity for 1st acceptance to SEAS dropped from ~24% to ~18% this yr, some highly discouraging trends...
Hopefully this wouldn't necessarily reflect the transfer appl. pool this yr. In any event, good luck to all the fellow SEAS prospectives!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a surge in freshman applications and thus number of freshmen admitted would probably mean a decrease in the slots open for transfer admission. (I'm a SEAS prospective, btw)

I don't think there will be any correlation. A surge in freshman admissions means that NEXT year's transfers will have a harder time. Transfer slots are based on the number of this year's dropouts, I believe.

So the bottom line is, we don't have enough information to make any sort of conclusion.

agreed-at least i hope thats how it is (Columbia College applicant here)

Hey, goyounha. What major are u looking into in SEAS, just curious since u indicated ur current college as NYU, a rather non-engineering school?

NYU does offer engineering majors in conjunction with Stevens. However, I found that inadequate. I'm looking to major in BME.

goyounha, u mind posting some of ur stats here? Or u could PM me. Just wanna get an overview of my fellow applicants.
Not too long ago I posted a chance thread on this forum, but I still feel so unsure of myself... Columbia, in general, has always seemed to be the odd ball out of all the Ivies, at least that's how I see it. BME is a really popular/tough major in SEAS, wish you best of luck of getting in!

I remember you have a very good chance nancy.

Thanks for the confidence boost, foxdie. But according to the profiles that I found (on this forum) of those who got into SEAS last yr, there's a girl named Layla in particular, they were applicants w/ some extraordinary accomplishments. I was actually kinda surprised that they hadn't been accepted into any Ivies right out of HS. Honestly, compare to these amazing ppl, my stats seem very commonplace. So I'm not very sure about my chances despite the fact that I attend Cornell Eng.

Thanks nancy :D

My stats: 3.8 College GPA, 2250 SAT, 800/720 Math II and Bio (Molec) SAT II, 3.67 High School GPA (UW). My ec's are kinda bland, and I don't have research or internships yet, but I think I wrote pretty compelling reasons for transferring. Best of luck to you as well!
