any course to switch into at this point

So im in engin101, the intro programming class and its hell for me. Is there ANY class at u of m where it is not too late to switch into? Like seriously I'll take anything to get out of engin101..oh and in fact i don't think engineering is a good match for in the first place, don't like physics don't like programming, etc. But I still like math :)

You won’t be able to “switch” per se. If you drop ENGR 101, it will appear on your transcript with a grade of W, there’s no tuition refund, it will affect financial aid, etc etc.

But, a few LSA minicourses (1 credit) begin in October. A few began in September but have drop/add deadlines of October (though you’ve probably missed too many classes to be a viable candidate for passing).

If you go to the Course Guide (“Public Class Search”) on WA, do a “Class Search”, choose “Additional Search Criteria” (in green at bottom), then at the bottom of that under “Session” choose “Second 7 Week Session”, and you’ll see a list of courses that go from October/November through December. There aren’t many, a lot are restricted to Business students, and few will be able to make up the credit difference.

Are you a first semester freshman? you can drop and add without the W appearing up until November. It’s a special scenario just for freshman so drop it if you don’t like it. And yea mini-courses you can still sign up for. There are many geo-sciences ones still open and they seem interesting so I even took one of them as my elective.

which instructor do you have?

nikeboy, the extended add/drop deadline for freshman was september 23rd. There is no way you have up until November, I swear if that were true, half of engr101 would drop after the first exam…

Things will work out for 101. The average won’t end up being below a B or a B-, no matter what the scores are.

Too late to edit… I’m curious. What was the average on the 101 exam?

the average was a B for ringenberg’s class last yr i think, so it should stay that way. hard exams are good, cuz last i almost got screwed by the first exam cuz it was so easy— to be point of making careless mistakes

I am 100% sure they said that at orientation that first semester we cannot get a W. Now if that is only for LSA I’m not sure but the option is there for me at least.

Just checked the page for engineering, didn’t find the same thing there, my bad then, its only for LSA

average for wellman’s engr101 first exam was 74. I failed it so I was thinking about dropping but I think I’ll just stick with it…

Does wellman curve at the end of the semester? I know ringenberg did a curve for his class last year. I have a sophomore friend who said that happened to him. Its funny because he got a 54 on the first test and got zeroes on 2 projects and still ended up with a B- :O

ringenberg’s 2nd midterm last yr had like 68% avg, and because of this exam, there was like a 0.7~0.8% bump at the end of our final grades, and i made the cutoff by like .1%. so it was curved, but dont’ expect too much though.
You get to drop 1 project i think, and getting a B- is below avg since the avg grade was a B.

just work hard, you’ll be fine.
