Any current students/2013-ers wanna read my esay?

What's fanfiction? -curious- Sounds interesting. I like writing fiction, lol :).

@Izzy1988: Nah, it happens all the time. I'm pretty used to it by now :D

@ quasi - yeah in us doller, but here in Israel when you go to university you don't pay much for the tuition itself, but the apartment and car (because busses here suck bigtime), and food and books.....
a normal apartment is like 400-600 dollers per month and you are talking about something not all that big minus the bills.

Whoa, that's pretty expensive. We in Britain are extremely spoilt, yet hardly any of us count our blessings at times...

So are you applying this autumn, then, or have you already applied for the class of '13?

I'd be happy to read your essay. PM it!

already applied, i'm older as it is, so i applied both to Yale and here in Israel. so if I won't get in to Yale I'll probably try for MA in the US.
I did get into IIT but I only got 9k FinAid and I don't have 27k to spend each year out of nowhere

PM me if you want :D

Here's what they say about internationals on IIT's financial aid page:

"Types of financial aid for international students include scholarships, student employment, and private loans."

I suppose you could try and get a job to mitigate the fees slightly, or take out a loan... if you intend to stay in America afterwards, you might get a slightly better paying job and then be able to pay off a loan faster. I don't really know, though.

yeah but as international i need a co-signer and i don't want to be a burden on my relatives

-scratches head thoughtfully- Well... I'd recommend getting a job from now till you go to college, and also getting an on-campus job once you're actually in college. That should help with some of the expenses. I don't think there's much else you can do... but don't take my word for it. Go create a thread on the Financial Aid forum and ask for advice; that should help :).

yeah i know, and i'm gonna ask my relatives anyway i guess

Also, try asking your teachers at school, and people like that. Good luck ^^.

yeah.... i graduated in 2006 and they won't know much.
only half of them can speak english well

Like I said, try asking on the Financial Aid forum, first now and then when you know whether or not you're been accepted to Yale, and whether you got any FA. You'll probably get advice from a lot of parents and graduates who are a lot more experienced and knowledgeable in this department than I am.

When are the Yale decisions coming out, anyway?

tomorrow

10charz

-reminds self to read "Regular Decision 2013" thread on Yale forum- I like looking at the stats of people who got in and seeing how I compare. It proves pretty useful.

Goodness! I can't believe you guys started on the essays for next year!!!!
I'm applying to Yale next year as well and I was going to start in July..when the Common App and the Supplements are up and I thought THAT was early. Hahah. Apparently not! At least not on CC.

But I'm brainstorming some ideas..
Haven't started writing any of them though. I'm going to work this summer, volunteering, study for the Oct SATs..but nothing else so I'll have a quite a bit of free time to get a head start in the summer. Hopefully. I'm planning to apply SCEA.

Gosh, this makes me feel like I should start my essays tomorrow or something.

Haha I didn't start writing consciously or anything. It just...came, very spontaneously, if you get what I mean? And I believe that i produce my best writing when I write spontaneously, so yeah :).

QuasiProfound: AWESOME! I'm from India too :D

Haha yeah I totally get what you mean!
I looked up essay topics for this year to get an idea of what colleges are gonna be asking and I put a notebook next to my bed because I get ideas spontaneously, usually right before bed and I just jot some things down..
I hate being forced or pressured to write (esp. if there's a time limit) so it's nice to get a head start and just write when it comes naturally.

Who all here are applying SCEA to Yale next year? :)

Sure, tetrisfan, I would love to read over your essay and offer some constructive criticism and compliments as well!

Me. Haha.

Well, maybe. I'm thinking Stanford SCEA instead, mostly because I don't want to get rejected by Yale before the end of March. Not that I'm not going to get rejected by Stanford too, it would just hurt a MINUTE amount less.

I actually enjoy writing these essays, particularly the UChicago ones. There was this time earlier this year when I was OBSESSED with the UChi essays and I kept getting ideas about them and it actually kind of sucked because I was supposed to be studying for my exams. My problem is that I get totally obsessed with topics (college-essay ones and otherwise) and then I can't stop writing but then just as suddenly the obsession wanes and I want to do something else. I'm a very sporadic writer. Haha. And I KNOW, time limits suck! The main reason I hate SAT essays!

Haha, python, looking at some people's stats just scare me.
