Any Dean's Scholars?

I am a dean's scholar at cornell, I assume its a great thing, The letter i got said its the highest honor given to incoming freshman, but what exactly is it?

Do you mean Tanner Dean Scholar?

Yeah, I got one too, and from what I gathered, it was basically $600 for book fees and $2,500 for research over the summer if you applied for it. The larger benefit, however, would probably be personal attention from professors and almost a guarantee that you would get research, because of the grant.

I couldn't tell you any more, however, since I didn't end up choosing Cornell in the end.

Dean's Scholar is given to something like the top 5% of incoming freshmen, whatever that means. All that means is they're allowed to give you merit aid but it's based on your financial situation. For example, if your EFC is 0 all they will cover is books. If you have a low EFC, most of your loans will magically turn into grants.

Beyond the recognition and the $$, it's pretty pointless. I went to a welcoming dinner in my freshman year for other Dean's scholars in my school, and I never heard anything from the program until a month before I graduated when totally out of the blue i received a subsidized invitation to some random ecology conference.

Yeah, Dean's scholar for the college of human ecology here. I thought at first it'd be like 10k or something, since dean's scholar awards at other colleges were pretty big, but only $600. damn

I'm a Dean's scholar in Human Ecology also, whats your major?

human biology, health and society. That's cool, what were ur statistics. I thought there would be more people that had better statistics than I did. Guess i was wrong.

Nice, I'm a PAM major... Eh, I had 2260 SATs (M:770/V:720/W:770), 750 Math IC, 730 American, and I had a 107.345 weighted GPA taking the toughest available courseload. Plus my EC's fit in really well with PAM, I coach special Olympics and worked on political campaigns. So IDK what criteria they had. What were your stats, and where are you from? hopefully i'll see you next year. I just got off Duke's waitlist, but i think cornell is still the place to be.

I got 2340 (m800,v760, w780), with 800 math 2, 730 latin, 700 us history. 4.597 weighted gpa, sort of hard classes. umm, I wrote a column for our town (fairly big town) 's newspaper this year and a bunch of other ECs, like boys state & CTY & other stuff. i have a bunch of math and foreign language awards that are pretty big. However, nothing that would show that I'm an excellent candidate for human biology, health, and society or human ecology. I've never done any research or any special complicated science work, just done what i felt like (i guess they just picked the best HEers :) ). had a crap job workin at supermarket until they fired my negligent ass. I'm from Connecticut. I'll probably see you there too. I cannot wait, I'm going out of my mind b/c I'm going to Cornell. School sucks. **** school.

2340, very impressive, i think they probably just picked the best HEers also... I'm so excited, do you have facebook yet, or are you still waiting for your password like I am? I don't really know anyone going next year (even though Im from long island, pretty surprising) so i'm just looking to meet people.

Where in CT are u? I'm from CT too and I quit a crap supermarket job and my manager freaked out lol

i got the netID thing in the mail today actually, but i'm having trouble activating my email address which is gay. I'm from Glastonbury CT, supermarket jobs suck, like there were no benefits at all & we were paid minimum wage. I was a bad worker anyways.

nvm, i'm a dumbass, i did something wrong and fixed it

Cool I have played indoor soccer in Glastonbury when I was younger. I live in Columbia (small town near Willimantic/Windham, Hebron, Lebanon (where I go to school), etc...

Supermarket jobs do suck. If I didn't have really cool coworkers I woulda gotten to hate it sooo much more lol. I hated my boss too. ugh

Yeah, Oakwood rite? I've played there before when I didn't suck at soccer. I know where Lebanon is, that's cool.

Ya I used to play soccer a ton. I now play track tho (hurdles). I'm captain of indoor and outdoor track. I friggin love hurdles lol. Sadly the regular season is over now (for team playing teams) and now its just the people who made States that are going to practice. I'm really excited about states tho...

azndevil, i have my net id by searching under the people tab at cornell.edu, but i havent recieved my password yet, I guess ill get it in the mail soon.

yeah, u'll probably get it today

im a mcmullen dean's scholar for the school of engineering.
