hey, im going to be entering drexel in the fall as a BS/MD student and I was curious about summer research. i think theres another student entering the program this year who has already started doing summer research at the university - before our first college classes! after finding this out i was so surprised and felt left behind! i definitely want in on this opportunity so how could i go about doing so? also, have you heard of kids in the program doing research before their freshman year? Thanks

SpaceJam: The girl you’re talking about actually works in the lab with me. She’s way ahead of the game by starting research now, and I believe she got the position due to keeping in contact with one of the professors that interviewed her (though I am not positive about that). Don’t worry, though. Most students don’t start researching until their first summer break through a program called STAR which you’ll probably receive a number of brochures about. If you’re interested in researching during your freshman year I suggest going here (provided you’re interested in biology…otherwise google the different departments): [Department of Biology, Drexel University](http://www.drexel.edu/coas/bioscience/)
Look through the different types of research and contact various professors you may be interested in working with. I landed my position by simply emailing one of my professors I had for a lecture class and he gladly met with me and offered me a spot. Granted, not all are that lucky because timing certainly plays a factor, but it can never hurt to try.

I’m trying to decide whether I want to change my meal plan so that I get more dining dollars instead of more meals cause my parents are probably gonna make me bring stuff to eat.

I ‘thought’ I read somewhere that you could use the dining dollars to buy amex gift cards at starbucks or something? Anyone know if this is true or not?

I strongly recommend getting the “Blue Meal Plan” which gives you $475 in dining dollars every term and 12 meals. Unless you are in ROTC or on an athletic team, it doesn’t really make sense to get an unlimited meal plan because most likely you won’t be waking up for breakfast every morning and eating a minimum of 3 meals a day is the only way you make your money off the unlimited plan. Also, you’ll find out that you’ll probably go to the dining facilities popping up all around campus that require meal plan dollars. during my freshman year, there may have only been 3 places or so to use your dining dollars. Now there’s probably over 10, including a starbucks. Also, in case you run out of meals, you can always “flex yourself in”, that is use your meal plan dollars to buy a meal from the cafeteria just like you can buy your friend a meal. i hope this helps

Thanks Zack Also, I need to live near Drexel/on campus (preferably walking distance to Bossone) for a few weeks in August to do some research (I was in the college of engineering mentorship last year) Do you have any suggestions on dorms/places where I could live for a few weeks?

how is the art program at drexel?

Hi.
Maybe you’ve answered this question already, but is Drexel good for pre-med. There don’t seem to be a lot of majors offered.
The co-op seems nice because you can get actual job experience.
Also, is it worth spending all that money just for undergrad?

hi … anyone knows, still no feedback about the eBill? when will they announce their toll on me?
i’m especially worried cuz i live in china and there’s no fast way of paying, and 8/15 seems to be the deadline from bursar’s

so i’ve earned 4s/5s on bio, chem, physics B, and AB calc

but when i checked my transcript on DrexelOne, under “accepted AP credit”, it only lists chem and calc

has Drexel’s AP policy changed this yr for BS/MD students, or has Drexel not received all of my AP scores yet? for me, bio was taken last yr, but physics was taken this yr along w/ chem/calc, so i don’t think it’s a matter of inconsistency between years

I thought they said that they only take 5’s.

Drexel is a great place for pre-med… a lot of the people major in bio. for their co-ops they do everything under the sun including working in hospitals in the field they are thinking about going into. co-op experience looks great for med school and usually on your 2nd co-op, it’ll give you extra time to take mcat classes and study for the mcats since you won’t be taking classes as well. it works out very good.

So I wanted to room with three people I know also going to Drexel, we emailed them and asked them how and did what was required. We got our rooming assignments but we’re split two and two, the reason being is that one of us is in the “STARS” program and was placed on the tenth floor of Race Street. Well when I called and found this out I was told there wasn’t anything we could do, but I don’t see why. Is it absolutely mandatory for people in the STARS program to live on the tenth floor? I mean, the other two are only on the fifth floor in the same residence hall.

is there anywhere around drexel area that I can rent a fridge?

Does Drexel have an International Relations program? I saw on CollegeBoard that they do, but I’m not sure. If so, is it a good program?

kingah yeah you can rent a fridge. you might want to check what accomodations your residence hall has, eg: towers has a big community freezer. also it might make sense to juts buy a small fridge on sale if you are going to use it for the next few years anyways.

sushi_error, drexel has an international area studies major that is very good.

we also have a great international business program which is offered in a standalone concentration and a dual concentration with a foreign language.

I believe that for normal 4 year colleges, if you want to transfer, you need to do so by the end of your second year (correct me if im wrong). But Im in the 5 year co-op, and if i want to transfer, when do i have to transfer by?

thanks

Hey Zackdudde, thanks for answering questions in this thread. I’m new and just quickly posting so I don’t have time to sift through 19 pages, but I have a few question regarding admissions…

I have a 3.0 GPA which is lower than the average 3.4 GPA, and I come from a school that has a reputation for lazy students. My only strong area is science, I took the AP chemistry exam and scored a 4, and I’m taking all available honors physics courses. My SAT scores were 630 for reading, math, and 660 writing. Do I stand a decent chance of getting in?

Also, the combined fees and tuition seem to be around $40,000, but I can only afford around $10,000… How lenient are they with financial aid?

Lastly do you know if the subway in Philly lets you carry your bike on? I was there last week for a tour of Drexel but didn’t see any.

Thanks

I have finished applying to Drexel, and I’m just waiting on transcripts and letters of recommendation to be sent in. What is the earliest that Drexel begins notifying students of admission with their rolling admission? Thanks!

Is Drexel good for History / Poli Sci?

Oh, and, how’s the dating scene? :)

technomancer,

i would recommend taking someone on on a nice romantic date down to old city ([Old City District: Philadelphia’s Old City District (OCD)](http://www.oldcitydistrict.org/indexFlash.php)) or penn’s landing. go to the independence seaport museum: [Philadelphia’s History Museum of the Region’s Maritime Heritage - Independence Seaport Museum](http://www.phillyseaport.org), then have a nice dinner on the moshulu: http://www.moshulu.com, and then walk down south street. if its during the winter, there is also ice skating at penn’s landing: http://www.riverrink.com/. don’t take the subway though, its not romantic or impressive, take a cab. how’s that dating scene for you? i will gladly take any nice girl on a date in philadelphia so let me know if you’d like to take me up on that offer or if you’d like me to take your daughter on a date.
