i had a dream that i got the email, shorter and worded differently, but i still actually havent got it haha

Maybe only certain admin counselors sent the email and not all. My son received it from Christy Tanton.

@smoothieking If you don’t mind me asking, when you say you’re in contact with your admissions counselor frequently, what are you contacting them about? I’m just curious because yes, if I have a question I wouldn’t hesitate to send a quick email and ask, but for the many schools I’ve applied to this has maybe happened once or twice.

Honestly, one might say I am sort of envious of your frequent contact because although I had an interview with my counselor, and have been in contact with the Dean of UA, and Directors of Undergraduate Recruitment from two of the schools I am interested in, it was only once or twice that this occurred. I would have loved to developed a closer (or more visible/“frequent”) relationship with my counselor, especially since my Stats are on the lower side of SMU’s “average” (due to certain circumstances that my counselor is well aware of), and SMU is tied with one other school for my top choice.

I tend to ramble and have run on sentences due to my creative mind (from what I am told…), so I hope my nonsense makes sense to you.

But I would love any information or advice that you or anyone could offer to me.
Thanks!

I never received any e-mail, but it’s ok because we will find out by next week!
Why did they decide to change the deadline? And I agree they should definitely make an online status checker; talk about going green! :)

For the accepted part, what is the difference between the university merit scholarships and the departmental? Are university the main scholarships, and departmental like if you qualify for a special award in your intended major?

@Sypde24: I had a dream of that tooo! I practically have been camping out by the mailbox.

when will we be getting acceptance letters? i thought it was the 15th. and is it mailed?

I e-mailed my admissions counselor about 3 weeks ago regarding my major clarification and my counselor just got back to me today… looks like they have been doing some major major consideration… so expect the reply during the week of christmas… =(

My high school has a close relationship with SMU and our respective admission rep Lori Atkinson, and many students from my school are accepted each year. Lori is really good about keeping in touch with her applicants and has been able to answer my questions promptly and thoroughly about four or five times, and I’m on her mailing list. So that is why it was a surprise that I didn’t get the pre-admissions decisions email.

Smoothie, my son has the same admission counselor and he did not get the e-mail.

Got that email too, different counselor though.

My son also got the email… from a different admissions counselor.

My son did NOT get the mystery email. It sure is strange, how different kids are getting different things in this process!

I’m not worried about it. The email is not necessarily a “good” thing. It’s most likely a “neutral” thing – something that only some admissions counselors sent? But it could even be a precursor to a “not so good” thing. We just never know!

We’re going to kick back and wait for “the real thing!” :)

Best wishes to all! It shouldn’t be too long now …

i want my answer now hahah i wish the mail will come soon

son just found he has been offered Dean’s scholly at $14,000 per year - dang, i have no idea what a kid has to do to get the coveted Chancellor’s thing, but this certainly knocks TCU off the first of his list. not to sound ungreatful, but his other offers for number 2, 3 and 4 are all better than this.

^Wait, northtexas! Don’t lose hope!

First of all, are you talking about a TCU scholarship (on the SMU forum?) or an SMU scholarship??

Either way, I know from personal experience that both SMU’s and TCU’s scholarships trickle out over a period of months. At least they did a few years ago. One of my sons ultimately got the TCU Chancellor’s (or was it the Provost’s maybe? – it was full tuition at any rate), but it didn’t arrive until later. I think it was March. Before that, he got various awarded amounts. (If I’m remembering right, the Dean’s scholarship arrived WITH his very fancy, purple letter of acceptance. Some big scholarship did.)

If the Chancellor’s does arrive for your son, it will not be in addition to the Dean’s (if it works the way it used to), but INSTEAD of the Dean’s. FYI

So, if TCU is his number 1, then tell him to be patient! The scholarship he’s looking for may still come.

(And, if you were intending to address the SMU scholarships on this SMU forum, then my response is basically just the same – be patient. )

nope, you are correct - posted a tcu thread on smu forum. this why economists should stay away from electronic and forums…hehe

i was talking about tcu. i did find out today that smu sent their admit letters out today and the lady also told me that scholly award amounts will be included in those letters - at least the “first round” of offers.

thanks for pointing out my bad posting thing.

^lol.
Wasn’t trying to point out your error, just so you know. But I did want to answer the question you were really asking! :)

Wish you the best! Your son has applied to (at least) two great schools!

My child has not received the email either or had much contact from admission counselor. We visited campus along with others campuses and loved it. The other universities we visited have sent several emails and mailings and already admitted my student within a week or so from receiving application. They also sent Christmas cards with personal messages. Nothing from SMU. They do have an interim dean of admission and the one time we called after they contacted us regarding a missing document (which we sent and they had) they seemed to be somewhat disorganized. They also changed the date for early acceptance on the website from the 12/15 to the end of December; however, I can’t imagine that they want to work between Christmas and New Years when most college campuses are closed and employees want to take vacation time.

My daughter received her packet today. She was accepted!!
