Any experience with temporary housing?

I got accepted this weekend, and I called to find out if there are still any openings for on campus housing. She said that there are openings but it is temporary housing, where you live in a study room or lounge until they find you normal housing.

I would like to live on campus but after looking at the information on temporary housing it seems like a less than ideal situation.

4 people in a study room (11ft by 12 ft 9 inches)
6 people in a lounge

no way of telling how long you will be staying there, possibly the entire first semester
48 hours to move to your new room after you are notified
bring minimal belongings until you are in permanent housing

Any thoughts?

matsum91, my experience is from when I was at A&M in the 80s. Long time ago, but hopefully my situation still applies. I was housed in a study carol in Mosher Hall. It was supposed to be temporary. We had four people in the carol and used the bathroom across the hall. No closets, just a dresser brought in, bunk beds and our desk was the study carol kiosks along the wall. Two of my roommates got permanent housing, but then they ran out and two of us stayed in the study carol the whole semester. The doors didn’t hold out sound very well. I remember one time while I was in my room a couple people walked by and saw our class schedule boards on the door and exclaimed, “Does someone live in there?!” not realizing I could hear them clearly.

It really wasn’t that bad, and I was just grateful I had on campus housing at all as I didn’t have a car and didn’t want to have to rely on buses all the time. My roommate and I became great friends and we roomed together the next semester when we got permanent housing. You just chalk it up to another great story to tell your kids someday.

Thanks, I went and toured today, and decided it’d be better for me to live off campus where it’ll be a little more stable, so I’m gonna live at the Cambridge.

Azim13- Sounds like a great deal! Unfortunately I signed a lease this morning, and I’m staying in a different roomstyle but I will tell my friends that are going to A&M about your offer.
