Any great places to eat and sleep?

applicantmum77,

congrats both you and your daughter! i will also be a member of the class of 2012 :)

i live about 20 minutes away from campus. some of the other poster's have been spot on in regards to Wooster being a semi-smallish town with the College being the main highlight, so to speak. they have been central in many of the programs i have participated in during the last 4 years. there seems to always be something going on up there.

i especially agree with FLVADAD's post, #18. i already know several current students and about 4-6 of their professors, 3 of them pretty personally. echoing another of FLVADAD's points made, they really do tend to accomplish more with their students than those schools who have higher graduation. they (the students) also seem genuinely content and happy. as a local observer, most aspects of the College seem very well-rounded. no specific group seems to be overemphasised.

if you, or anyone else, have any other questions that you'd like to be answered about Wooster, both as a surrounding area and the College, and also the nearby towns and villages, i would be more than happy to answer them!

Thanks lamiller2008.Does the town have character? Or is it strip-mally? Does it cater to the college students in any way? A quick review of restaurants shows lots of chains....is it a town that has had its hay day, or one that is up and coming or one that is there! Thanks in advance!

wooster seems to have character like any other small town, but yet at the same time is still very unique. it doesn't seem to be strip-mally, the two main strip malls are each in their own area and don't take over the whole city.

what do you mean in regards to the city catering to the college students? like activities/events, retail outlets, resources, etc?

the city seems to actually be a combination of all three situations. there are some parts that have seen their better days, and for the most part it seems to be a place that likes being classical but yet at the same time it appears to be moving forward. residents for the most part seemed to be fairly pleased. wooster is actually in the midsts of celebrating their bicentennial. there have already been numerous activities planned and more that are underway. i know that there will be a parade in the first or second week of july because i'm considering playing in the All-County Band, which will be comprised of high school students from Wayne Co.

hopefully i've made some sense. it's been a fairly long day at school and i'm starting to get tired, not to mention that my allergies are starting to kick in and i've been sneezing my head off this afternoon :)

lamiller--Thank you for your insights on the Wooster area, and also, congratulations on your impressive financial aid package!

lamiller2008, my daughter and I will be visiting Wooster this summer. She is a junior and Wooster is on her list of colleges to explore. She is an ice skater. Can you tell me about any ice rinks that aren't too far from the college?

there's actually an ice rink in Wooster that's not that far from campus. it's called the Alice Nobel Ice Arena. the facilities are pretty nice. if i'm estimating correctly, it's only about 5-7 minutes at the most. it's a neighbor to Wooster High School. here is the ice rink's web site: Alice Noble Ice Arena

My brother has just recently graduated from Wooster and would go back in a heart beat. After four years of constant visits in the fall (he was on the football team) I can answer pretty much any questions you may have about the school. Also, for good food, I would have to reccommend Broken Rock Cafe in the downtown area, great food.

Shelly14, During the accepted student day in April, the COW took the parents and students on coach bus tours of the area and a visit to the Alice Nobel Ice Arena was included on the tour. It is an impressive facility and the directors spoke to us about it with passion. It was donated by a local couple. It was not far from campus and they made it known that students are welcome there.
