Just finished my junior year. I have a 3.5 W-GPA (91)(rank: 40-50/200), and scored a 1930 on the SAT (CR 650 M 610 W 670)(plans to take it again). I took my SAT 2s and scored a 690 on the US history.

White Male, NY public school
I have:
-A few years of Varsity Sports
-3 Honor Societies
-Class Secretary
-7 AP classes (AP Bio, AP Physics, AP Calc, AP English (2 years), AP US, AP Gov)
-Community service
-Multiple jobs
-grades in upward trend, most challenging courses possible

Do I have any chance at all or would I be better off not even trying?

I’m not sure but I think Vandy require more than 1 SAT II subject test…If that’s the case, you won’t have time to retake either the SAT I or any SAT II’s before the ED deadline so I would say don’t waste your ED on Vandy. Try looking at JHU because they are the same caliber and they accept an astonishing 50% off ED. I think you have a better shot at JHU than Vandy.

Vandy does require 2 SAT Subject tests, but you could do the September testing date and rush the scores… Your second-biggest issue is that you are an NY applicant, and Vandy gets a lot of those. That said, if you really want Vanderbilt, apply ED with killer essays/recs and I think you would stand a shot.

Your biggest issue is passion. You really want to go to Vanderbilt, right? Well, feel that passion, and explore where else in your life you feel it. In your essays, talk about the things that make you as passionate as you are about Vanderbilt. When you talk about your ECs, you talk about ‘community service’ and ‘varsity sports’ and ‘a lot of jobs’ but you don’t convey any real excitement or passion about them. This applies for every competitive school you apply to, whether its Vandy or JHU or anywhere else: You need to find the passion, because it’s the passion that will get you in.

GPA- 25% of applicants who were admitted had a GPA of 3.5-3.74
54% - 3.75 or higher
20%- 3.0-3.49
1%- 2.0-2.99

CR: 670- 760 - 650 too low
M: 690-770 - 610 too low
W: 660-750 - 670 lower end

85% are in top tenth
96% are in top quarter.
So I would say that you probably will NOT be admitted to Vandy. ED stats are always lower. You have an okay chance
