Any HS seniors transferring for soph year?

After this year's horrible admissions round, is anyone planning on trying to reapply as a soph transfer or first year? I am just curious because some of my friends think that I am crazy for not wanting to give up the dream...

I think I may give it a shot, although I think I would be happy staying at MSU and paying the in-state rates, I think my stats could get me in at a place that actually meets 100% of my EFC. I may try UNC-Chapel Hill, UVa, and Michigan. I didn't apply to UNC-CH or UVa because I heard both were very competitive, and I was waitlisted at UM. Heck, I may even shoot for Vanderbilt or Duke.

I'm planning to apply to some schools that i didn't apply to previously. A sophomore transfer likely isn't very easy, but i'm banking on my good hs record and hoping to get a 4.0 this fall. with soph transfer, you really only have one semester to prove yourself, so make it count.

I am for sure I have a guaranteed transfer at Cornell of 07 but i am going to try my luck again at Columbia, and Berkeley. Also for fun I am going to try Harvard and Yale

well, i'm planning to transfer to penn 07 for sophomore year, and i was wondering, since it would be tough both working on transfer app and studying in a college i'll be in this fall.. when should i start working on transfer app? winter vacation? or january 2007? or earlier? or have any of you starting to think about essays and all stuff already???

i'd say go ahead and look at the transfer app now, and get an idea of what you need to do. however, you'll likely have time to work on it during winter break, and i don't believe most colleges want to see any of it before january. that gives you the break to do the paper part, and the next three months to get reccomendations and transcripts.

I'll probably look at the transfer apps this summer and work on what i can. The essay I plan on leaving until last is the "why I want to transfer to x school" because I want to give UCLA a shot even though it is the complete opposite of what I wanted.

So is anyone thinking about transferring as a first year? I am trying to weigh the pros and cons. Transferring as a first year means higher acceptance rate and possibility of going ED/EA, however I dont think college classes will transfer. It would also mean "wasting" a year at college and being behind everyone else.

i don't think anyone is considering transferring as a first year. that isn't transferring at all. we're talking about transferring after one complete year to be a sophomore at the new college.

At some schools you don't have a choice though. For example, harvard and yale require you to have been in college for at least a year to be considered a transfer.

I've given some thought to transferring, but I'm not sure I want to go through the application process again so quickly after this year.

it's certainly not easy. i can't imagine how some people apply to 10+ schools. i would imagine that would take at least a couple hundred hours to complete and handing professors ten envelopes for ten evaluations would make me feel pretty bad.

i am probably. no offense but screw your friends. do what you want to do.

i do kindly suggest though - give the school that you will be attending a chance. don't go in assuming you're going to definitely leave. the school may surprise you! (unfortunately this was NOT what i experienced... but i did know some who did) and then if you find it's still not what you want - then transfer, by all means, that's what i'm doing, after all! I'm just suggesting, though, that you don't decide NOW how you will feel about a school you haven't started attending yet :)

i agree with that. also, i don't reccomend telling everyone at your college that you want to transfer. keep it to yourself and discuss it with advisors and professors.

I too plan on transfering for soph year. It's not like I don't want to give my school a chance, it's just I know I made some poor decisions last year in choosing the schools I applied to and my stats are good enough to get me into a school better than the one I'm currently attending.

I agree with stich...I made very poor decisions during the college application process and the school I will be attending next year is the complete opposite of what I want now (although I am still excited to attend). Im also not ready to give up on the dream.

As a re-applier, I just want to give myself a try. The last round, for me. The result won't be really important. At least, I hope that many years later, I can say that I have no regret.

I'll be a freshman at UConn in the fall and I plan on applying to USC

I'll be a freshman at Wesleyan in the fall and I plan on reapplying to Harvard (I was waitlisted), as well as Yale and Stanford, just to take a shot at the elites.

i'll be a freshman at emory this fall and i will be reapplying to yale, columbia, penn, and brown, among others
