I'm at orientation right now and for the past 2 days I've been trying to go on the internet to look at courses, professors, and my UTEID. However, I have no connection. I've gone multiple places too and some of my friends connection is fine, even in the dorms. what happens is that I have to connect to the restricted network, since guest one isn't available since Aug. 2007, so I login and try to download their auto install or whatever so I can access the internet and I get "unable to connect to server", I talked with an OA and she said "uuhhh I don't know....people have been asking me that." So then I asked someone from the fishbowl and they said it may be b/c I haven't registered for classes. First of all there are other orientees who can use the internet just fine and second, there are some people who register using their laptops! The only thing I can think of is that it's my laptop (dell inspiron mini) but I get a connection everywhere else, except on-campus so I don't really know. Anyone else have these kinds of problems?

did you manually set up the conncection?

you have to connect with guest, then follow the instructions when you go online…

I dont mean to hijack this thread, but how can I also connect my iTouch to the network? I think i have to download something, but the app that they list is only for the iPhone.

Yeah, I tried that and it didn’t work. I have a friend who’s good with computers try too, in case I was doing something wrong but she couldn’t figure it out either.

Go on the restricted wifi. you sign in with your UTEID. But it has a time limit. I’m at orientation right now too

^ Yeah I know, I’m saying it doesn’t work for me. I sign in and I get the whole can’t connect to server message. Don’t know why, other people are having same problem though, according to my OA so maybe it’s not just my computer.

it depends on where you are, some places have spotty wireless. Sometimes the wireless just craps out.

What kind of computer do you have and where are you trying the internet?

dell inspiron mini, has built in wifi, places:everywhere in jester dorms, outside, the library, food places, tried a variety basically

you can connect to the old network on the ipod touch, then you can download a configuration file from here : http://webdb.its.utexas.edu/iphone/
Visit the link while on your ipod touch.

The exact same thing happens to me when I was at orientation. Do the manual install. You’ll have to use your ut eid and passeword twice. The second one is like a windows login box. If you still don’t know, go to the FAC. They helped me out.

Just to let everyone who may be having the same problem know: click “exceptions”. After you log in with your uteid and get to that page that talks about how you have to download and stuff, scroll down and there will be a link to “exceptions” click it and you’ll be fine. Your connection will be instant!
