Anyone know when decisions will be mailed out?

I'm not sure when they will be mailed out, but my Tulane rep told me that they started reviewing the Community Service Scholarships yesterday.

I think I saw something from last year that said that they made decisions on the community service scholarships by the beginning of March. However, if they just started reviewing them yesterday I'm guessing we will have to wait longer than that....

I think there were only 2 full tuition scholarships given last year. The minimum is $5000 which won't go very far.....

I'm guessing that everyone else has some high profile community service. I've been looking at winners of national community service scholarships. Most of the winners are kids who have started their own charities and stuff like that.

Anyone hear any updates on this?

jjcddg, I would think that it's at least $5000 less you owe towards education right? It could buy your book or pay for a meal plan.

I didn't mean that $5000 was nothing, but compared to the COA at Tulane it couldn't sway a decision to attend.

the announcement deadline for the community service scholarship is april 1st, but they might give you their decision earlier than that!

During last Thursday's chat with Tulane I asked when they expect to notify those who are awarded this scholarship. They said that decisions should be in 2 weeks.

I just got my letter and I got a full scholarship!! dean's honors scholarship + community service scholarship! wow i'm so happy!

Congratulations, miamigirl! I've no doubt that you will become a major contributor to Tulane and New Orleans as well. I can't think of a place that will need you more.

Good job! I don't think I got it

Congratulations miami girl - But check their scholarship page on Tulane's website. I think I remember posts from last year where people had to chose between taking a merit scholarship or the community service scholarship but couldn't get both. I may be wrong, or maybe you already knew this, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. Did you get the full tuition community service scholarship or a partial.

My mistake, I got the distinguished scholar's scholarship for $20,000. The letter didn't state whether I got full or partial, it just said "the community service scholarship will complete the full cost of your tuition to Tulane University." I'm pretty sure I got the full tuition. You can't combine the Dean's Honors Scholarship with the community service scholarship, but you can combine any other merit scholarship with it.

Then definately congratulations.... After your original post I started to wonder what was going on, giving two full scholarships to one person when they can only accept one.

I guess if my son doesn't hear by today he's out of luck....

WHat was your community service if you don't mind asking.

miamigirl-
That letter means that you have your tuition covered (about $34k this year) but you will still have the other expenses (fees, books, room, board, etc) that will come to about $12k or so this upcoming year. Your community service award is about $14k or so, which can be combined with the $20K you already got. When my s was awarded the DHS (full tuition) it replaced the $24k presidential scholars award that he was initially given. He can combine the National Merit award ($2k/yr) but Tulane doesn't let you combine other Tulane-sponsored awards. There are some other awards that can be combined (I dont have the FA booklet in front of me at the moment) but most of those are for LA (instate) students. Congrats!
