My son has applied to the new Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology program at Cal. Does anyone know anything else about how they will select from the candidates? It sounds like a great program, but very competitive as only 30 or so will be selected this year. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Good ECs including running a profitable small business since 8th grade.
@Zeitgeist11 My D also applied to MET program and is getting ready to submit the supplemental. It seems to combine best of EECS and HaaS courses and is geared towards budding entrepreneurs.
It does not say on those pages, but these look like 20 unit semesters, as opposed to the usual 15 or 16 unit semesters. Presumably, that is what is needed to complete all of the non-overlapping requirements for both majors (including the different general education requirements).
There’s pretty much no info out there on it as it’s brand new, aside from the little they post to their website. Haas (and EECS) are both hard enough to get into in their own right, and this will be much, much, much more difficult to get into given there are just 30 sports. Similarly, Haas and EECS are difficult to get through in their own right, let alone doing both at the same time.
Sounds like a cool program but you won’t find any first-hand experience with it on here or elsewhere.
We asked them about who gets an interview, and this is what they replied,
“In some cases, questions may arise during the application review process that are not addressed in the written application and warrant an interview. The interviews allow us to learn more about the applicant and gives them the opportunity to discuss information provided in their application. The addition of interviews enhances our comprehensive review process.”
Is anyone applying to IEOR? I think the application rate is 10-to-one EECS vs. IEOR. If u r applying to to EECS the interview is a definite positive. I am not sure if IEOR are getting interviews. My sense was that MET was supposed to be half of each. Any views? Thx
donhower, it is unclear, and I guess it depends on how many applicants they are getting for EECS vs. IEOR and if they want to keep it balanced or not. I think most applicants are for EECS+Hass, and not getting an interview says two things: either u r a slam-dunk to be rejected or accepted. Did u apply EECS of IEOR? No one has yet responded in they are doing IEOR and getting an interview.
My sister is interested in applying to the program next year. Have the interviews been conducted yet? If so, how did the interview process go? Any tips for her?
