what about u???

For accepted early decision candidates, you will receive your MMSS decision letter by Feb.1st. (Update: Decisions will be emailed by Feb. 8th. We apologize for the delay.)

Are you kidding me right now…

OMG,we still have to wait for abt a week,T T

I was deferred to RD T T
how abt u??

same here…

I was deferred too. Do we know how many or what % they usually accept early?

Sam Lee, Viviste, Pizzagirl help us out.

From what I know, the application pool was very small yet self-selective in earlier years for MMSS.

But recently, interest in MMSS and awareness of the program has skyrocketed. More and more qualified applicants are applying more than ever before.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the acceptance rate drops a little if not by a lot this year.

As for your deferrals, I wouldn’t worry too much because its probably a gimmick they play off to wait for more applicants and to review the entire pool as a whole before handing out the spots hastily.

After all, there are only 20-30 (correct me if i’m wrong) spots in the MMSS freshman admission round.

I presume they only accept those “slam-dunk” candidates with stellar math scores/grades/classes/ability in the early admission round.

But if your math is pretty strong and it is reflected in your application, I would not worry.

One of my friend got admitted…><

Obviously I can’t speak for the admissions committee, but I believe lienad is on the exact right path.

You should probably treat your deferrals as legitimate deferrals and not as polite rejections.

As an MMSS student, I’ve been able to see the kind of attention we get - even relative to econ majors here at NU - and it doesn’t surprise me that (1) more and more applicants of a superb caliber realize the value the program and (2) more and more recruiters head in for that student base. These two things have been playing off of each other for a bunch of years now and the program is changing because of it - and the results have been resulting in a more competitive Freshmen application. It can’t hurt that the previous MMSS director, Dale Mortensen, won a Nobel in Economics last year.

I would go as far to say that MMSS has been consistently receiving a greater amount of applications than the admissions committee has anticipated for a couple of years in a row - results of (1) and (2) - and they’re more likely to defer so that they can better understand the landscape from which they’re sending out acceptances.

It’s a small class size, and - like any sufficiently large early action pool for a small number of seats - deferring allows for better ability to mold an incoming class, and I think that holds particularly true when the landscape has been changing as drastically as it is.
