Any Internationals?

hey everyone!

just wondering...are any internationals out there that are applying to these combined programs....I'm in Canada myself, don't have American citizenship, and I'm applying to...<<lol please="" don't="" laugh="">> :p :D....16 schools that have the prog...SOO basically my question is:
1) any other intl's on CC applying to these prog's?
2) does being an intl help/harm us in any way? i mean generally speaking, would the adcoms for the combined programs have a preference towards US citizens? </lol>

thx :)

i really dont want to break you the bad news but you have to be a US citizen or permenant resident to apply to US combined med programs (unless they specially allow Canadians, I have no idea). And if they do allow internationals, I am sure that they would give preference to a US citizen.

Hey Anita! It's nice to see another Canadian on the boards. Where in Canada are you from?
Don't listen to Foodisgood. I don't think being a Canadian citizen will help us, but I don't think it hurts too much. Penn State told me that they have a few canadians in the program, and that they love us :)
GWU and MSU specifically caters to Canadians and Americans, no other internationals. Most prog's allow for Canadians, except for a few which are open to Americans only. You just have to check with each individually.
Can I ask which ones you've applied to? 16 huh? Makes me feel a lot better about my 10-12...(though only 2 are med progs)

o ok, i guess there are some programs which canadians can apply to. Sry if I rubbed off the wrong way but I noticed that many of them have US citizenship requirements or permenant resident requirements. Anyways, Good luck!

applied to only 3, i know people who have gone to penn state from canada

but i would suspect being international if it doesn't help you for regular admissions, it certainly wouldn't aid you for combined progs

foodisgood --> yeah there are quite a few that allow canadians to apply too...that's why i'm applying to them lol....and yeah i know what you mean about the US preference....ah well no harm in trying :)

toothfairy --> i'm in toronto..what about you? and lets see if i can remember all the prog's ive applyed to off the top of my head..that would be an achievement in itself :D lol
ok so...GWU (MY DREAMMMMMMMM :D), Penn State, Michigan State, Northwestern HPME, USC, Siena/AMC, RPI/AMC, Union/AMC, Howard...
Brown PLME, Boston U, Rice/Baylor, Case, U of Rochester (REMS), VCU
U of Connecticut...andddd that's all i can rememer for now....
as you guys can probably tell i BADLY want to get into a combined prog...

rakeon--> yeah one of the canadians at penn state lived in the same neighborhood as me....if it wasn't for the gossip that went around after he was accepted, i might not even have found out that these programs existed :D :D

anyways good luck to everyone else too....let's all pray we get to meet at the interviews!!!!!! :D :D lol

i have a question, if you apply for rpi/amc, union/amc, and siena/amc, do u get multiple chances to get into the program?

the person i knew was a family friend, she went a few years ago

wow, you pretty much applied to all of them lol

foodisgood--> as far as i know, yes you do...anyone else want to confirm for us? lol

anitaVM,are you indian?Your friend son of MD mother(Ceylonese) or father(Tika)Latte any meaning?
or mother pharmacist-all went to UTS?

rakeon,
her mother pharmacist or md(chan)

nope, not a pharamacist, wrong person

let's see,you said it was a Toronto girl at PSU.
uts student, mother pharmacist now matched in surgery(residency)
uts student,father MD,still in program
public school,father MD,still in programme

Anymore?

Anita, the USC program is a fake.Only 25% goes to UCLA

petaling -> yep i'm indian (SURPRISE!!!) lol :D ...but no I don't recognize any of the names you mentioned...PM me if you want, maybe I'm just confused...:)

ps: rakeon are you a fellow Torontonian (is that what we call ourselves?:D) as well?

yes torontonian, guess there's more than 1 girl at psu from toronto

Hey, isn't there a combined program in Canada too? One with Dalhousie I think in one of the provinces. Sorry I don't remember it right now. But, that might also be a good option, AnitaVM!

not to my information, no, there are no combined programs
not combined in the sense that a spot is waiting for you 4 years from now

nope stanford_dude, no combined programs here the way there are in the US.... they do have something at 2 univ's (MacMaster, U of Ottawa) where you don't have to write the MCAT and they MIGHT CONSIDER YOU without it or something like that i'm not quite sure...but it's NOWHERE as good as the ones in the US, and to me it just seems like a lame attempt at stopping Canadian students interested in medicine from leaving the country:rolleyes: :D lol

i wouldn't call mcmaster's health science lame
it's the closest thing in canada, and it's not bad either
just, it follows traditional route, 3 or 4 years, then apply
