I was just wondering if you could think of any program in martial arts that could be suitable for absolute beginners, and for which there is an instruction class at UCB. I looked at the RSF website and the website of the UCB Martial Arts Program, but it was not much helpful. I really do not have any particular preferences, just want to try something new and interesting that I could do even though I am a total sports antitalent. I understand that there are some clubs etc. but I am not sure if there is something that you can join year-round or...?

The RSF has martial art clubs, which you can pay $120 a semester and you attend their practices and learn. I never been part of one, but my friend has and there are weekly practices you attend. They have instructors to teach beginners so they should be beginner friendly…There’s a week in which all the martial arts program let you go to a lesson for free…and it’s usually in the beginning of each semester…so you can check those out

There are also PE classes that are martial arts/elementary level. I’m currently taking Taekwondo, Elementary level and it’s very beginner friendly. You don’t need to know anything going in and you make friends working out I would advise you take it P/NP instead of letter grade though…however, if you want to thoroughly learn martial arts, the PE classes aren’t as thoroughly as if you signed up for the RSF club

There are also student groups with martial arts that the RSF doesn’t cover. For example, there’s a kendo club and wushu club…these are also accepting of beginners and you won’t be the only one that’s going to be trying it out

Edit: PE classes, you only need to rent the uniform…$15 for the semester, but you also have to go weekly because attendance is a big part of your grade. It’s also only two hours a week. RSF Clubs, you pay $120 and you learn a lot more and there are weekly practices you can attend 2-7 hours a week…Kendo Club is $40 a semester
