Sport at Berkeley

Can you please tell me about it?

Some of the things I'd like to do there is martial arts and dancing (ballroom and/or Latin).

Also, what priveleges do "athletes" get (aside from registering first for Phase 1)? What do you have to do to qualify as an "athlete"? etc

An "athlete" with perks would be an intercollegiate varsity athlete, they register early and have other assistance available.

Other sport options include club sports, usually pretty serious commitment, competing against other teams, some far away, maybe even national championships in your sport, esp a sport that is not offered at the varsity level; inter-mural means teams competing against other teams at Berkeley, so more casual, but there are lots of former HS varsity atheletes, so certainly it will give you a work out; PE classes; then there are rec sports you can join, yoga classes, etc.

You can check out the RSF for its classes in Martial Arts.

UC Berkeley Recreational Sports: Martial Arts

The fee is $120 per semester though...

Thanks.

I'll check that site out. 120$ is quite acceptable, considering the amounts we're paying to go to the damn place lol.

Try to expand your horizons by looking at the whole range of stuff available. Cal Sailing is an outstanding resource, you can take as many sailing or windsurfing classes and go out in the bay when you get a membership. Once you master sailing skills, you can rent out a boat in Marin county with a group of friends and cruise around. Great fun.

Tons of other stuff too through Cal Adventures and beyond.

Can't you take P.E. for the according Martial Arts that you want to do? There's a TKD class for PE that I really want to take!

Yep you definitely can take PE for it, but considering the cost advantage of $120 for RSF fee compared to the credit hour... It'd probably be better taking it at the RSF. Unless the PE one offers a different instructor with more available classes...

Ah, TKD? I remember taking it back in high school, and man...you really got to be flexible. It was fun doing it though, and I can still do the splits. I'm thinking about taking Judo at the RSF, but then I heard that a Judoka who was taught by Jigoro Kano, (the founder of Judo) is still alive and still teaching in the bay area...

Oh man I'm so excited now! I watch all those videos about people knocking each other out in 0.001 seconds... TKD at the beginner level is nothing like that, right?

I've signed up for yongmudo at 8am but a) I don't really want to get up that early - I'd rather do it in the evening, and b) more to the point I might want to sign up for some 8am or 9am lectures.
