Choate’s Icahn Scholars program. I’m not sure if it’s completely merit based though.

The purpose of the Icahn Scholars program is to provide a Choate education to financially challenged students who are academically admissible. The scholarships provide full tuition, room and board, books, travel between home and school, and five weeks in a summer program prior to the start of school for enrichment and orientation. Students who qualify for an Icahn scholarship may be coming from very challenging life circumstances and may have some gaps in their education but who demonstrate the ability to succeed. The all-encompassing nature of these scholarships is designed to ensure that financial hardship and concerns do not stand in the way of the recipients’ focus at school and to enable these kids to fully participate in student life during their time at Choate.

As an aside, and in relation to a current thread in the Parents forum, the Icahn Scholars program is an example of a Wall-streeter who believes that with great wealth comes the responsibility to give back to society in a meaningful way:

I believe that St. Paul’s in NH has a full tuition scholarship for a classics scholar. Not sure if this is still true, but it was a few years ago.

Portsmouth Abbey School has one every year…
