i was wondering if there are any merit-based scholarships specifically for high school students who have difficulties paying for private school?

some individual private schools will offer merit based scholarships and even more offer financial aid for students with demonstrated need. These types of aid are offered by each school -- so you need to contact the school to find out what they offer.

As far as national scholarships offered that are not tied to individual schools -- there are a few groups out there that work with very low-income minority students who show high potential. they work with different schools to provide aid. Other than that, I don't know of any scholarship for private school.

National Merit Scholarships (qualifying by scoring high enough on your PSATs) can be used at many private schools.

Some schools (Washington College in Maryland is one) also give scholarships for National Honor Society members.

Otherwise, take a look at the threads stickied at the top of this forum:

Maybe we need some clarification -- I read the post as looking for scholarships for private high schools.

Ah, you may be right. I assumed the OP was talking about high schoolers trying to pay in the future for private colleges. If not, and your reading is correct, then he/she should just ignore my post!

My son attends a catholic high school in the Boston are that offers merit scholarships. He previously attended private ISL middle school which did not offer merit scholarships but did offer need based money.
