Any news?

I’m pretty sure the invitations to interview are “divvied up” to the various colleges at USC, and are not just sent out to the statistically “best of the best” students overall. If a student has skills or interests that a dept is looking for, he might be offered an invitation over other statistically “superior” students applying to different majors. The interviews are conducted by a prof from the college the student applied to, in addition to an admissions officer and a current scholarship winner from that college.

do they send out the acceptances for all scholarship award recipients or just the Trustee/Presidential recipients? Any idea when most people hear from Thornton?

On USC Admissions twitter page from 1 hour ago: “First-year scholarship applicants, keep an eye on your mailbox! Notifications are being sent. Good luck & Fight On!” Could there be another wave of letters coming?

Anyone from USC School of Engineering received acceptance/trustee/presidential scholarship invite???

My D1 got an invite for a Presidential Scholarship and she’s been accepted to Viterbi.

Could there be another wave of letters coming?
probably- there were numerous waves of acceptances in the past.

My son got his admissions packet last week and just received notification that he received the Dean’s scholarship today  He applied to Viterbi.

Great news Mumstheword2. Your S is a great example of the various scholarships that can add up. I know you posted on another thread that he also is a candidate for Town & Gown. Keep on going!

I live in San diego, and just received a small envelope from USC stating I didn’t qualify for either scholarship. I didn’t know USC sent these, but I got one. Not very happy though :P

Ndude… were you also admitted to the school? Or not?

ndude154, remember that there are still many smaller scholarships for which you are still being considered - best of luck!

bookworm… I was not admitted. They just told me that I will hear in Late March or Early April. They also said that 27,000 students applied by the Scholarship Deadline, and about 1,000 were selected.

^Wow, those numbers are obscene, I can’t believe only 1,000 students were selected? Anyways, good luck in march ndude!

Last year (2011 cycle) they increased the early admit total to 1,000. Prior to that it was ~800.

has anyone who applied to roski heard anything?

ndude154 - got the same letter you did. No admittance (yet); no Trustee/Presidential scholarships; still being considered for other scholarships (Deans? It’s not specifically mentioned.) It would seem odd (to me) to have the students who received word of their acceptance with the now infamous “blank” piece of paper and students who received a letter like we did to both be recipients of a Dean’s scholarship. So I think that scenario is unlikely. Can’t say I’ve figured out the method to the madness yet, however.

Another piece of info in the “hang in there” letter is that “we have filled approximately 15% of the 8400 spaces we expect to offer first year students.” 15% of 8400 is 1260, and with 1000 targeted for Trustee/Presidential, that leaves the balance for Dean’s, I guess.

One minor bone to pick with this communication (I didn’t want to disappoint anyone) is the phrase “We will have more news for you about your application in late March or early April, when the remaining admissions decisions will be finalized.” I am aware of some schools announcing final decisions over a period of time (the UC notifies during March) but I’m not aware of any school notifying after April 1, and most schools notify on a single date. Why can’t they just say students will be notified by April 1? Perhaps they will also allow admitted students to notify USC of their decision to matriculate sometime “in late April or early May.”

Last year there were more than 8400 admitted for the freshmen class. So I expect the admit rate to go down for the Class of 2016.

Last year letters did say by April 1st.

National Decision Day is May 1.

lonelybottles - sorry to hear the news too. I have to agree with you; it’s really weird that we could still receive a Deans scholarship with no acceptance, while others have got a blank acceptance. I have to say though, I’m quite surprised I haven’t been handed a scholarship/acceptance yet.

I have a 4.0 uw, 33 ACT (36 Math-34 Science), 5 APs with all 5s, 800 Math II, Unique leadership oriented ecs, biotech paid internship, excellent letters of rec, and a superb interview (it was supposed scheduled to be 20 minutes, and ended up taking 1.5 hours).

On the other hand, I have heard that these scholarships are somewhat random. I know that USC won’t be a top choice for me if I don’t see any merit money.

Good luck to you in the coming months!

So I’m confused.

Does everyone who’s not up for a major scholarship receive a letter like ndude’s?

Well… what general area do you live in? If you live in SoCal it would have been much harder for you to get it ndude. Also what about your essays? If they didnt speak to the admission person that could have been a problem.
