Any Nigerian's in the house

bump********

Interesting posts. I would reply once I finish my 3 AP tests..ugh.
by the way wot does "bump" and "ten characters" mean

BUMP just stands for "bump up my post" and "ten characters" is when you don't have enough characters to post on here....so some people just put "ten characters" so they can post their comment.

btw, I decided on Duke, so I'll be headed there for the fall :)

And good job Sefago and Jrock and Afrikaan and everyone else :D

Thanks, Diana606. Congratulations to you too.

actually "bump" originally meant "bring up my post", but now i guess it's morphed into "bump" as an actual verb:D

Jrock, I agree with you, in toto. One of the reasons that I love Amherst so much is that they notified me early of my admission, saying that I was part of a small group of applicants that they were especially excited about. That was March 2nd. So you can imagine how confident I was at the time. I reasoned that if Amherst thought I was exceptional, I would at least be a marginal acceptee at the ives. Even though I also got a similar early notificaion letter from Oberlin, I preferred Amherst. Although, I took my precious time before I notified the college of my intent to enrol. I definitely think that you should go to a school that wanted you from the start. To me, it would be horrible to get into a school off its wait-list. You will always feel as if you are not as good as the other students there, as if you are a second class citizen (if you know what I mean).

Now, I just can not understand why I was wait-listed (not to mention the rejections that I received from Harvard and Yale). I guess it makes the decision making process easier. You can imagine how perplexed I would be if I was admitted by all the colleges I applied to. I was accepted into Amherst, Oberlin, Middlebury, and Bennington. And, wait-listed at Vassar, Wesleyan and P'ton.

And, only two of the five colleges in the consortium are women's schools (Mt. Holyoke and Smith). Apart from that, I'm not sure that I will take any courses in the other colleges. I hear that it is notoriously difficult to register for the classes. And, the 3-2 program that you were talking about... wasn't it for engineering students? Do you want to be an engineer?

And I'm sure that we will meet at some point. What town is Williams located?

Diana, congrats on getting into Duke. I'm sure that it was not easy. Nice work.

Switch, I missunderstood what you were to super cool. I'll not kill your dream, don't worry (lol). But I still think its a nice idea.

The 3rd of the 5-college consortium, Hampshire is also a women's college. Well I might want to opt for 3+2 but it's highly unlikely, as most Williams engineers go for Master's degrees in engineering at places like MIT, Stanford, after 4yrs of physics....but well Williams has a 3+2 with Columbia, but that doesn't sound appealing....

sure we'll meet! Williams is in Williamstown, about 1.5hrs by road from Amherst. We'll all probably land at the same airport - Albany, and then take buses to W-town and Amherst respectively...are you by any chance a member of the USEAC in Abuja?

Jrock.. Hampshire is coed.. only Mt Holyoke and Smith are women colleges..

I'm so sorry, I'd been misinformed. Yeah Hamps. is coed.

Jrock, yes, I am a member of the Abuja USEAC. Why do you ask? Did I say anything that gave me away?

I don't think that we will land in the same airport. Amherst College advises its international students to use Boston Logan, JFK, or Bradly airport. There was no mention of Albany at all. Maybe the three airports are all within greater proximity to Amherst than Albany.

Do you plan to participate in varsity atlethics? So that I can at least see the look on your face when your team loses its away matches at Amherst....lol

Well, I'm also a member of the USEAC, Harare! and that's where i intern at the moment, lol. But i'm cognisant of the fact that the USEAC at Abj. works directly with LJC, so i just thought, well, maybe you're a member.

some have told me they used JFK, so if WIlliams sends shuttles over there, then there's no point sitting at the airport for more than 18hrs just to hop to Albany in an hour....

as regards athletics, i'll prolly be doing cross country, or we'll see when we get there. i also know another nigerian [currently in the US though] who turned down williams for amherst. would you like to get in touch? she said there were no nigerians at amherst, lol. at least now there'll be 2 this year:D

Yes, I would like that. How could I get in touch with her? Is she a freshman or an upperclassman? (guess I should say "woman")

How's you're internship? Good to see that you're putting your gap year to good use...lol. And, Jrock.... remember..... I did not go to LJC.

Hi everybody, jrock i decided to go to Georgetown because of the naid( I got waitlisted at Cornell for finaid). Why are you not attending washington university? I read in the newspaper(very ld newspaper) about a boy who got 9A1s and is currently attending Washington university. I knew I was right about Okonjo- Iweala because I remembered she mentioned that Bill gates was her classmate.9 can you believe that). Switch, Congratulations on your acceptance to Amherst. I really real;ly like Amherst. My financial aid at georgetown was really low($30,000 grant). I got over $40,000 at my other schools. i am probably going to transfer top another school (probably dartmouth or Brown). Talking about preatige, most people I have met IN nIGERIA HAVE NEVER heard of Brown,Dartmouth, Pennsylvania,Caltech,Georgetown,Vanderbilt,Northwestern or Duke. The only schools in America(to most people) are Harvard, princeton, yale, columbia, stanford and Mit. JROCK OUR FRIEND WHO GOT 2290 what school is he going to.

Hi switch, I can send you her MSN, cos she'd also want to get into touch with you ASAP. She said there was no NIgerian there when she visited! Sorry, I keep forgetting about the LJC thing! my Edu Advisor told me about you today! and it was so cool we've already met online, lol!! i'll send you a pm ASAP but i'm at work right now!!!

sefago, our friend is off to Caltech!! Ngozi schooled with Bill Gates?!! INcredible...

Thanks, Sefago! And, congrats to you too. Georgetown is a great school. What do you want to study? Also, may I ask what newspaper that you read the article about the boy with 9A1s in (as well as the date of the publication)?

"Talking about preatige, most people I have met IN nIGERIA HAVE NEVER heard of Brown,Dartmouth, Pennsylvania,Caltech,Georgetown,Vanderbilt,Northwe stern or Duke. The only schools in America(to most people) are Harvard, princeton, yale, columbia, stanford "

What do you mean by that?.....
Most people don't even know what Harvard is (lol). I remember bringing the topic up when I was in secondary school and someone swore that Harvard was a football team in the U.S.
Employers aside, the vast majority don't even care.

I would have found that really funny if I was'nt in that category a few years ago.( I actuall thought that princeton was a secondary school)

The guy at WashU, is he Olufolajimi Ige? We have the same first name:) however, WashU is WAYYY TOO expensive. over 50k and they want me to take out loans for 4 FULL years!!! ok, I'd turn down WashU for Williams 1million times over!!!

go Gtown!! have you read about King Abdullah II of Jordan yet, sefago?

I have read about king abdullahi. I also learnt that Amerie went to Georgetown.

no his last name was akande
