Okay, so I'm trying to narrow down my college list (which is really hard!) I'm interested in either political science or sociology, and a smaller school, like no bigger than like 7000 (2000-4000 would be awesome, but no lower than like 1500) I've had straight A's all through high school except 2 B's in Physics, all honors classes and 9AP's all four years, editor of school newspaper, do forensics and debate, Irish dancer. Here's my list, can anyone think of any schools that maybe might be a good fit that I didn't put down?

Dartmouth (might be a stretch, but I'm going to try anyways)
Macalester
Colgate
Tufts
Wash U
Grinnell
University of Illinois -Urbana-Champaign
George Washington???

I think I need a few more safeties, oh well. any input would be awesome, muchas gracias!

Georgetown seems like a good fit, is there a reason you don’t have it? Also possibly Brown. Wesleyan and Vassar are both a really good size for you, though they are more left of center than most of the schools you are looking at.

I don’t know if you’re willing to look at the west coast, but Pomona or Claremont McKenna might work, since the consortium makes those small schools bigger.

Perhaps Dickinson and American as safeties?

U Chicago might be worth a look... it's somewhat reminiscent of a combination among Macalester, Tufts, Wash U, and Grinnell, and shares a lot of cross-applicants with these schools.

George Washington is large and many people say, impersonal, but it should be a safety for you, so you should apply. Does Barnard appeal to you at all? Sounds like a match to me. If you like Dartmouth, how about Bates? Northwestern is probably bigger than you would like, but it might be good (not as a safety, of course). You didn't mention the west coast, but some of the Claremont colleges may be good.

GWU, UIUC and Grinnell are so different that i can't imagine what the common attraction is. Have you visited any of these schools, and, if so, what did you like and dislike? Is UIUC your in-state safety?

yeah I'm basically applying to U of I as my in-state safety, I don't think I really want to go there though. I visited it, and if I had to go there for whatever reason, I would be fine, but it's def not my top choice. I kind ojust added GW on a whim, don't really know too much about it. American might be a better choice. And I don't think I'll apply to Georgetown, I don't really like it that much, and for whatever reason not very many kids from my school that apply there get accepted (only 1 out of like 15 last year) I've considered Northwestern and U of C, but I live in the Chicago area and I do want to go somewhere different. My SAT is 2030, not too good, but I am going to retake it in October. thanks for all the responses! any other ideas?
