D'13 will have 100% of my husband's GI Bill to use starting next year and I was hoping that there might be someone who would like to share their experiences with it, how does it work with other financial aid? Do they count the BAH as income?

icedragon it would all depend on when you parent retired but basically they had to transfer their GI Bil to you before retirement and this only goes back a few yrs. Sorry you could not sue it :(

My husband is using part of his GI Bill for his doctorate and we are saving the rest for our son’s graduate school as he was able to secure a full tuition scholarship for undergrad. But we did look into using it for undergrad.

In a nutshell, the policies about the GI Bill varied widely. Some private colleges participate in the Yellow Ribbon program, which means they will accept what the GI Bill pays and waive the rest. Others do not. I’ve not yet heard of a state school that won’t accept it and since it pays the highest in-state rate, it should cover any in-state school tuition.

I would encourage her to call the colleges she is interested in and ask to speak to directly to the person who handles the GI Bill. We found that sometimes there are only one or two people in financial aid and/or the registrars office who understand how it works in it’s current incarnation.
