Is there an improv group on campus? Do they do shows? What do you have to do to join?

It’s called FOOSH

hi
1] i am a student at elac,and i want to make sure if i maintain at least an 3.0 GPA and 30 uc transferable units and sign the tag with ucsd so i can transfer to there and choose the major i wish to study right? coz i am thinking of studying pharmacological chem and that major requires a much higher GPA.
2]does the school accept student transfer for double major? i wish to take economics and pharmacological chem together. or only if i finish the honor program can i have the opportunity to apply for a minor major and i can’t get any certificate on that major
3] i am an international student so how much money do i need to pay one year for both my living and study?
4] for the pharmacological chem, there are 3 pathways could you explain them a little bit like what way fits what specific kind of jobs…

thanks a lot!

Does anyone know anything about the bioengineering major?

Regard biking, parking and Shuttleville. (Shuttle world is living in areas served by the Shuttles). Some of the responses above have been painted through rose colored glasses IMHO.
San Diego / La Jolla has the highest motorcycle theft in the state; particularly associated with off-campus student housing (Shuttleville). There are no cameras or truly ‘in the open’ parking for motorcycles (like Davis a Berkeley), so racing class motor cycles are stolen from the parking structures. High-end bicycles too are routinely stolen. BTW: the theives use cutting torches; the larger the chain, the better (more from the recyclers). Parking a decent car on the street is also VERY hazardous. Despite the tony neighborhood, there is no street lighting in the area, and cars are broken into FREQUENTLY- for stereos, general theft,- for instance I had my interior door panels stolen and $2K worth of damage (wrecked two windows, dash etc.) while parked at Regents/Nobel area. I had my motorcycle stolen (it was chained in a locked -but shared garage in a ‘secured’ gated apartment complex. Sooo… a heads-up is in order.

As alluded to, your financial situation is based on your families income (until age 23!), which is reported on the FAFSA, and checked against their tax filings. Incomes below around $40K/yr score a full boat as far as deferred loans (no interested until 6-mo after graduation). As the income approaches %70K the (Pell, etc.) loan benefits slowly disappear, and your parents are paying interest from the git-go. There is a nice flat renumeration to students that work part-time ($3k/yr. granted), but only at UCSD campus jobs I believe.

@TatterSalad, may I ask what car you drive? I’m curious why someone would want interior door panels. I personally haven’t had any issues with theft in the on-campus parking lots/structures or even anywhere off campus (knock on wood). I am extremely careful about locking my car and I don’t leave valuables in it, ever. It is amazing to me how many of my friends casually leave their purses and/or laptops in their cars without even thinking about theft. Be smart and it shouldn’t be an issue.

hi, id also like to know how hard is the engineering curriculum for incoming freshman and if its easy or not to keep up good grades.

also will there be people there during orientation to help us pick classes because there are sooooo many classes and i dont know what the hell im supposed to choose!

@diablonecros: Should be doable because you take mainly GE classes during your first year. No one will help you choose classes, but they will assist you or maybe advise you, but generally you will follow a four year plan: accessible here: https://aventeur.ucsd.edu/public/student_four_year_plans/?currentCollege=WA, just search up your major

My son apply Biology as his major, but UCSD accept him under the undeclare major. (the reason was Biology is a very impact major) What can he do?

@newly2010: It will be hard to get into the Biological Sciences program, but if your son keeps his grades very high then he may be able to switch to a biology major later on. All the information is at exadmit.

@evolver thank you very much!

What do you do at orientation? And also when do freshman get their ID’s?

@stelliebella:

Each college does their own thing, but generally, orientation is a time to get situated with the school. You will get a tour of the school, learn about the resources UCSD has to offer, get any questions you have to answer, learn about your college and residential life. You also will meet many of your fellow peers as well as staff. You usually play ice breakers, experience the dining halls, etc…
You need to go to the student business services located in the student services center 3rd floor and there you will take your picture and they will automatically give you your ID card. This is usually done during orientation or Week 0.

Oooooh i see, thanks :]
Also, to buy a macbook from the ucsd bookstore you need an id right?

What is the social life like at the Village at Torrey Pines transfer housing? I understand there is basically no partying on campus in the dorms but i heard that they don’t really care about partying in the transfer apartments because they assume most everyone is 21 or over

^I’ve heard the social life at the village is better than any of the other on-campus housing areas… but then again, that’s not saying much…

well that’s good news i guess hah. I’m not looking for a huge party scene, just a little fun. I’m just scared that i’m gonna be disappointed by the lack of a “college experience.”

^Join the greek system, seriously, it is the best decision I’ve made since I came here.

Oooooh could you explain more about the greek life at UCSD and your experiences?
