Any Questions about UCSD?

@hlimey - IMO, you should sit down and do some real research on pre-med, med school, and the pediatrician field. Pre-med is a very difficult/rigorous/competitive route to take, especially at UCSD. You have to really really want to do well. I’ve already seen lots of pre-meds drop out before junior year. Thus - do research to make sure it’s the right path for you.

You’ll be taking a lot of chem, organic chem, physics, math, biology possibly, and other science-oriented classes to prepare for the MCAT. Freshman year you generally start with chem, math, your college’s writing program, and GEs.

HOW is the instrumental music program? Specifically for the piano.

Thank you

How does one become an orientation leader or RA in the future?

apply through your college sometime in the winter quarter

ie, here’s ERC’s: http://roosevelt.ucsd.edu/res-life/raapp.html

What’s the homework like? I have heard there is no hw really just tests and essays, but there is hw for math/science classes. I also saw somewhere that math hw is “suggested”? I’d rather just learn and not do hw at all

Most (if not all) the lower-division math classes have assigned and graded homework. None of my chemistry classes had graded homework, although the suggested problems were invaluable to grasping the material.

Good luck with learning without homework, math and science classes are best “learned” only by doing all sorts of problems to apply everything that you’ve learned.

@uchogwarts

Most of my classes didn’t have graded homework. Let me say this though, if it’s suggested homework, then no, you don’t have to do it, but professors might take problems from the homework and put them on the midterms so it may be in your best interest to do them.

How does class enrollment really work?

how do u know what classes to enroll in if you’re an undeclared major?

i want to major in biology or cell bio so do i start taking classes that pertain to it? if so how do i know what classes to take?

how many classes can you complete in the summer without killing yourself? (i mean since the schedule is different)
what’s with the session I session II?
ideally 2 4-unit classes per session?

as many as you can handle, some people do fine with a huge load, others need 10 hrs day to study

two sessions, each 5 weeks long, think of it as an accelerated quarter

sure? it’s like saying 4 4-unit classes in 10 weeks. but same as #1, it depends on the person.

I heard most people take about 4 classes per quarter…so anyone with experience taking more than that?
I mean not just studying but also any scheduling conflicts…how much fun did you get to have

Why aren’t all sport teams at UCSD in division I?

^ I’d love to know that one too. Also does anyone have any kind of idea as to if/when UCSD could move up to D-1? That’s one of the only things that separates the school from being well known mainstream

@orangeicecream

I think it has something to do with them not wanting to give out athletic scholarships for those sports.

@spacedog

I don’t see UCSD moving up to D1 anytime soon and if they did, you’d be insane to think that they would make it into anything like the Pac-10. At best, they would make it into the Big West which wouldn’t make them any more well known.

That’s true, I guess they have to start somewhere though haha

All about the money.

Who won last year at the UnOlympics?

^Marshall.

Would you recommend the peer mentor program? Not in dire need or anything but maybe it’ll be nice to have a student mentor?

How hard is it to get classes? i want to finish in 2 years after i transfer, but i am worried that possibly the availability of classes would hinder me from finishing on time. for the most part is it easy to get the classes that you want or have there been a lot of times where you were stuck with less classes than desired or maybe a class you didn’t even need? sorry if this has been asked, i did a search in the thread and didn’t see it. thank you.
