9 times out of 10, you’ll get the class that you want. It MIGHT not be with the best professor or at the most desirable time of day, but in all likelihood you’ll get the class. It’s slightly more difficult for science majors, just because there are so many at UCSD all wanting the same classes.

As a major in the social sciences for two years now, I have never not gotten a class I wanted. I’ve also never had a class before 10 AM. I always waitlist.

Hi, I am a cognitive science major w/ an emphasis in neuroscience, and I am interested in applying to med school. Would this be harder route because I would have to take more classes and would I graduate later? I’m just confused on this whole process, so please help =/

you can get into med school with ANY major, you just have to fulfill the med school requirements. for an idea of what these are like, go to any med school’s admissions page.

(and it may be an excellent time to check out the pre-med forum, they know loads more than we do)

Optional texts are usually solution manuals or study guides. The level of helpfulness of the optional texts is different for each person. I personally find it very helpful to buy them.

what science class does a typical freshman take? im a EE major, but dunno if i want to pursue that, so which would be the better choice, taking Phys 2A or Chem6A?

^Since you have to take both as an EE major, it doesn’t matter which one you take first. But, for Phys 2A, Math 20A is a prereq and you have to be concurrently enrolled in Math 20B. I don’t know what math classes you placed out of, but I would pick the the one that fits your schedule the best.

how hard is it taking a language class? im chinese and can speak/write adequately (not like SUPER good) but want to take the chinese courses, not for reqs or anything but just for fun and for my own benefit of learning. would it be too much to handle if im gonna be a chem major? how hard are the chinese classes? i know theyre 5 units so does that make them difficult?

What are the RSO’s like at sixth and do they ever do like room checks and what happens if they find alcohol, beer bongs, or stuff like that in the room?

It really depends on the RA’s, but if you are living in the residence halls in Sixth, I’ve had friends get written up and they have to write a letter to the dean. Word of Advice: if you need to drink, drink at another college (like Marshall) because even if you get caught and written up, your own college decides what to do… and usually they are too lazy to do anything ;D

So for the academic information that we have to fill out by Aug 2nd, we have the choice to repick our majors? What if I want to switch into an impacted major (that I didn’t get into)? Would I do that now? Is that even possible?

^ If you’re referring to what I think you’re referring to, I think it mentioned that you’d have to officially change majors through Tritonlink, not just by listing another one. I listed Electrical/Comp Engineering instead of the Comp Engineering related to Computer Science, but I still have to go to Tritonlink to officially change it. And when I checked, I don’t think it let us change them just yet.

But I can’t help you out about switching to an impacted major. I don’t know how that goes, unfortunately

I have a question for Electrical/Computer Engineers please, right now I’m listed as a Computer Engineer but for computer science, which is more programming as far as I know, and I think I want to switch to the Computer Engineering for more hardware work (Electrical Engineering). What would any current Computer Engineers suggest taking their first year? I know of taking GEs, but do we take CSE or ECE classes or anything like that? Because if we do, I don’t want to take CS classes if I’m trying to switch to ECE because that would waste time.

Just wondering how many classes to take my first quarter at UCSD…
Well right now i am thinking of 5 classes - Music 2A, Chem 6A, BILD1, Math 20C and CAT1

Yeah it seems like a lot! Especially since you want to be able to have some free time to hang out and socialize, I suggest you take fewer classes. Most people take 3-4 classes per semester.
