How do you ask questions on the new student gateway? It doesn’t let me click on the e-advising tab…

@lakers4thewin

Nah. Your stuff will be ok.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I guess I’ll find out!

I’m currently a CCC student in my last semester, looking to major in Linguistics at UCSD. Getting ready to get my TAG app submitted and everything in a few weeks…

1) I’ve been doing some research, and it sounds like ERC would be the best choice for me…my only hangup is MMW. Is it that difficult that I should pass up the (it seems) best suited college for me, all because of MMW?

Currently, i have my choices ranked thusly:

1 - Muir
2 - Warren
3 - Marshall
4 - Sixth
5 - Revelle
6 - Roosevelt

Roosevelt appealed to me because of the international-ness of it (home of I-house, highly encouraged to study abroad, etc)

Just wondering what you guys think would be best, and if anyone out there in ERC could shed some light on the MMW situation, it’d be greatly appreciated!!

Awww, that’s sad you moved ERC last, haha. I am a huge ERC fan - I put it as my first choice almost three years ago and haven’t looked back. MMW is actually one of the best classes I’ve taken at UCSD. It teaches you a lot about the world and religion and other cultures that I’ve never learned anything about, and has made me feel more educated in general. Hard to explain. It just gives you a really great new perspective. There is a paper due each quarter (except in MMW 1) so of course everyone does their fair share of complaining, but otherwise the material is pretty fascinating.

This link was a really good recent thread about MMW: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/921105-anyone-who-has-ever-taken-mmw.html?highlight=MMW

See, I originally had ERC first, until I started reading all these discussions about MMW. I actually haven’t submitted my choices yet, so there’s still time to change. I have about a week to decide, starting tomorrow (8/24) so maybe i’ll change it back. Thanks for your input and the link though!!

@californiagurl92, from the new student gateway, when you’re on the Recommended Classes tab, scroll to the bottom of the page and click continue. When I did that I’m taken to the next tab for e-Advising.

Here’s a dumb question… from the e-Advising page, I typed in my questions and then clicked the submit buttom. How do I know when someone has answered my question? Does it come to me via email, or do I just check back on the e-Advising page?

^ Answering my own question haha… e-Advising answers are posted right on the e-Advising page. She was pretty quick about getting back to me :).

You should also get an email to your ucsd email address saying that someone responded - it doesn’t have the answer but you go back on to the site and the answer is there…

@californiagurl92 - click the “next” button on the bottom of the page (sometimes you have to scroll down to see it) - you should be able to get to it…

I know it’s late to ask this, but is it possible to change preferences from res. hall to apartment? An issue came up, and now I don’t think it’s wise for me anymore to sleep on the top bunk. Apparently, some suite triples have a bunk bed and a loft bed, and I heard that beds are assigned to students.

Is there a way I could request a lower bed or switch to an apartment double? I’ve applied for a res. hall double in Warren, but if I don’t get it, I know I’ll be assigned a res. hall triple instead. Thanks!

I would recommend calling your housing office and explaining them that you’d like to be assigned to a bottom bunk if you are assigned to a triple. It will be really easy for them to make that correction, whereas the apartments are usually full by this point. And also, as a freshman, living in a res hall is the most fun/easiest way to meet people.

Worse comes to worse, bargain with your roommate who is assigned the bottom.

@chaos0awaits

Without asking what the issue is, I think if you explain the situation to your roommates, they hopefully wouldn’t mind switching beds with you. I know I personally wouldn’t have any problem switching beds.

Thank you both for the quick answers! I know some people wouldn’t mind switching, but some could be really picky and I don’t want to run into conflict so early. I’ll call the housing office and see what happens.

Could somebody please explain the 200 unit limit? I’m not sure if I completely get it.

I’m an incoming freshman and I was wondering…what happened to clarkforbes???

^yeahhhhh what the hell?!

hey chaos0waits, after you call, can you tell me how it goes with the housing office?
cause im planning on calling and requesting a lower bunk too…

whos clark forbes? lol is this a dumb question?

^The person who started this thread.

Anyway, is there anybody who can explain the 200 unit limit? Do units from AP tests count for it?

This is just for future reference, but do we sign up for summer session classes before we sign up for fall quarter classes?
