Any Questions for a Current UCLA Student(s)?

Hey Tiffany
When are we able to pay for our fees? If we are not using financial aid.

what are some easy psych upper divs and non psych upper divs I can take my first quarter?

Hey Tiffany,

Do you think it would be weird to have all 3 of my classes on just 2 days a week? (Tuesdays Thursdays) I don’t have any discussions and now I’m rethinking my schedule choice. I’m worried I might have a lot of homework due all on the same day. What do you think??

how difficult is their honors program? do you know anyone who has regretted being part of it (as in, it destroyed their GPA…)?

thank you!

Hi Tiffany,

My orientation is on the 18th and I’m worried that I won’t get any classes and I’m not even sure what to sign up for, really. I know they’ll go over things when I’m there, but I hope it’s okay if I ask a little here because I’m freaking out a bit lol

Since we’re transfers, we’ll have our upper div classes to fill, so it makes sense that, as an English major, I’ll have a bunch of English-related classes, right? Sorry, that sounds so stupid but I guess I was wondering if people take some different classes or if that’s just a waste?

Do you have any suggestions for ways to arrange your schedule? I know everyone is different but I say Indie’s question and I was kind of worried about getting overloaded on two days or something as well.

As an aside (sort of), how do people know what to sign up for and everything already? I feel like I’m the lone confused random person lol

Sorry for all the questions! I’m hoping I can look up classes and know what I’ll be signing up for before orientation… hopefully!

Hello!

So my CAR has been approved and I’m now being switched to a triple in De Neve (yay?) Since you lived in De Neve, just wanted to ask what you thought about the triples. I was originally in a double in Sunset Village so I hope I made the right choice lol.

And I know you’re sick of this question but are there a lot of freshmans in De Neve? lol. Because I got switched I’m kinda scared that I might be stuck with freshman roommates since in order for me to be switched in someone from De Neve had to be switched out right? Could it be possible that if a freshman switched out they’ll have to accommodate by filling in their spots with whoever switches in or will UCLA still try to put transfers with transfers and freshmans with freshmans? LOL dumb question I know but just a little paranoid. :P

Thanks again!

O___O;;;

This is the second time this has happened! I spent over 15 minutes, way more than that actually, replying to all of you and CC logged me out, ■■■■. X___X;;

I apologize for my delay, I had my midterm today and I’m glad it’s over…I’ll be back to respond once I have the chance and patience!

Thanks!

-Tiffany.

Is it possible to switch into another major at orientation? For example, pre-psych to pre-econ? Or double majoring in two impacted majors?

I can get fruit anywhere. The 2 cookies is a safe bet, I’d say.By the way, thanks for answering my question. Probably wasn’t worth a post, but I can’t take help without saying thanks, so thanks. :)

Hello!

Sorry if this has been asked already but 37 pages is a lot to read through! I have a question about transfer housing. I would have to live off-campus because I refuse to abandon my puppy. I could live at home with my parents but the commute would be awful! Dealing with the 101 to the 405 everyday, no thanks! Plus, who could resist having Diddy Riese so close?! Lol, but seriously, I am anxious to finally be on my own and I’m afraid living at home would hurt me academically. I am dependent on FA so I guess my reward package might decide for me :(. In the case that it is financially possible for me to move, I was wondering if you had any suggestions on dog-friendly apartments or studios in the area that aren’t super expensive?

Gracias!

I’m back to answer questions! Again, I apologize for the delay! I’m supposed to be being productive at work but I can’t deal with looking at any more papers for the time being…

To gcarrillojr: Work-study jobs that are posted now are only for summer hiring. Every quarter, the department has to re-post their jobs, even if they already have workers to cover them. So…no, lol. I give you props for already being on the lookout, it’s good to be that way because I know it was super difficult to get mine! They should update the week before courses begin and continue doing so as the fall quarter progresses. Good luck!

To calile89: That’s actually a great question that I wished I had more information to! I think because summer sessions are going on, Financial Aid doesn’t want any sort of payment until September when the fall quarter begins, which is when the BAR deadlines are. If I find out more information, I’ll post it up!

To BRUINBOUND22: As much as I would love to recommend some easy upper divisions, I find they’re all the same, lol. Reading, going to lecture and then quizzes/midterms. Unfortunately, I picked up a minor so my first quarter at UCLA I was dealing with those courses and then Psychology 100A. Sorry I can’t be of much help this time!

To IndieRockNRoll: Honestly, it depends on the individual. I’ll use myself as an example. Because I’m a Psychobiology major, I need to have science courses sometimes (winter quarter was UGH) and thus need to have pretty much everyday of the week. Now that I’m done with that, I get to focus on my other requirements, and I don’t need to do that. I now have it so my upcoming schedule will be: courses and discussion sections on MW and then work/lab on TTHF. I love having the option open of being able to go home as early as Wednesday and not have to be back until the following Monday. But you’re right, you might have more assignments due in a smaller time frame. Regardless, I did it my first quarter and I loved it. You have to pick between having something more convenient and whether or not you’ll be able to handle the work load, I think it’s very do-able. Good luck!

To sunnybaNANA: Essentially the Honors Program reminds me a lot of the TAP program back at CCC. You basically take a course, then take the honors section attached to it…and then you usually have to take on a big project, write up a huge paper and that’s it. I don’t think it’s difficult at all so I don’t think it would mess up your GPA. You know what you’re getting into when you sign up for those honor sections!

To aninstance: First: don’t worry about it. A bunch of transfers are thinking that way too! You’re not alone. I bet people on this site with a “late” orientation date are freaking about it too. Last year I remember having one of the last orientation dates in July and I got into all the courses I wanted! Secondly, there’s this “planner” of sort on my.UCLA.edu, check it out. You can plan out your schedule with the courses you wish to take, even if they are closed/waitlisted and plan out that way. Third: Since you are an English major…yes, you would focus on getting your upper division courses for your major done, lol. Read my comment to Indie about your next question…it really depends on the individual…only you can decide what you can handle, what you can’t. Finally, on your departmental website there should be a link/page that lists the course requirements for your degree. That’s how most people know…but it’s not necessary that you know this inside and out. On your orientation date when you have your departmental meeting, you’ll meet with someone and a bunch of transfers from your major and they will discuss the requirements and ask if you have any questions, so don’t worry about it! Good luck to you and let me know if you have any more questions!

To jaynami: w00t! I’m not sure about giving up a double for a triple…but the good thing about living in De Neve is that you’re the closest to campus!! Anyways, there’s freshmen everywhere. I wish there would be ONE building specifically for freshmen, but unfortunately that is not the case! That being said, this past year, on my floor, everyone was a freshmen except for me and my roommate and another two transfers. Rest assured though, you will be paired up with a transfer student(s), at least that’s how it worked with us. Anyways…I think that’s it! I wouldn’t live in a triple…maybe because I’m spoiled and used to my own room…but I think it’s manageable…hopefully your roommates are messy…lol.

To C00K1E: I have said this many many times before…it is not possible to move into an impacted major, even if you are in an impacted major, doesn’t work that way, sorry. Double majoring in an impacted major wouldn’t work either…

To Salmos: No problem!

To LAladyy: I will be very honest with you. I have a chihuahua puppy whom I love and I couldn’t bare to leave either, but I dealt with it. I go home very often, so I am okay with it…I couldn’t and probably could not find a place to live here in Westwood. Getting an apartment that allows animals is nearly impossible…unless you end up getting a house, which has been done…but that just would seem super complicated. Right now is the time when UCLA students are apartment hunting, so I would get on it…fast! Sorry for not sounding optimistic, haha! I hope it works out for you!

FINALLY done! Heading over to my lab now!

Hi Tiffany! Thank you so much for your response<3 I’m less spazzy now, whew lol The class planner was so helpful and I feel so much more prepared for Monday (I’m jinxing myself I just know it lol)! Your suggestions were great thank you again for taking the time out to answer all of us<3

^
Not a problem! I’m glad I helped!

To jaynami: I just re read my post and realized I made a typo! I meant to say, I hope your roommates AREN’T messy! Hahaha! I met a freshman who had a triple in De Neve and her roommates were so messy that you could even walk around their room. I will never forget that day, hahaha!! Hope I’m not freaking you out, lol.

Hi Tiffany,
So I’m going to apply to UCLA next Fall as a computer science major. I have some difficulties during my first semester at CC so I cannot take calculus right away and as a result, I will have to miss one physics class (I only have 2 sems left for 3 physics T___T). On Assist it says students must complete all pre-reqs to be considered for admission. So I just wonder if you know anyone got into School of Engineering despite missing 1 pre-req? I am so worried right now that I don’t know if I should even bother applying or not XX Thanks :D

Haha don’t worry, I realized it was a typo :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for your input! I just hope I don’t regret submitting that CAR because I honestly forgot about it a few days after I submitted it since I was told a chance of me getting switched was slim so that e-mail of my approval surprised me lol. I was actually starting to warm up to Sunset too because of the fact that I had a double and that it seemed a lot of transfers got placed in there as well. Oh well, what’s done is done! Thanks again :)

I’m back to answer questions!

To snipehunter: With admissions becoming more and more competitive, I honestly do not recommend skipping any pre-req, that would be an easy way to get denied. Especially for the school of engineering–that’s unheard of! That school is INSANELY competitive, having your pre-reqs done is not even debatable!

To jaynami: (:

besides notoriety, what is so good about this school.

^ Why are you trying so hard to go around and diss any school that you know you can’t get into bro?

To Tiffany: Thanks very much, I know it’s insanely crazy and stupid to miss one pre-req, but I have no choice left. Guess I’ll just apply and hopefully I will be the first one to be admitted with one pre-req missing haha (I know chance is 0.01% lol)

Hey Tiffany!

Is there anything wrong with getting our books right now? For some reason I feel like I’m jumping the gun lol I got the classes I wanted, but I’m wondering if professors change things around or stuff happens or something. Thanks :D

P.s. I’m tempted by that thing they sent in the mail about bedding stuff (it’s some kind of package), if you know what I mean lol Would you recommend it or is it just a waste?
