Any Questions for a Current UCLA Student(s)?

My question is:

What if the past two years (this will be my third year) have been extremely difficult for you and at the time of admission you cannot prove that you’re “worthy” (GPA wise) until they start seeing the upward trend in your grades during the fall, winter, and/or spring semesters. But since you’re writing the application November, they kind of have to take what you’ve said on faith (this screams automatic rejection in my head)? I mean, say a person had been drowning in the 2’s since Spring of 2010 and this fall to spring they just skyrocket in GPA? For example, how do you think they would look on a person going from a 2.9 to a 3.3 by the time you update your grades (avg. GPA for the major is 3.5 admitted, I think) but you also have TAP because it’s a College of L&S major. I mean, I should hope that I get a 3.5 by the time I get out of here, but that isn’t until spring grades drop in. By that time I will have completed all the prereq’s, IGETC, gotten the associates degrees towards my major, and completed TAP. That’s all I can pretty much do for my major.

RheeL3: It’s too late for me to retake the class (INTRO TO BIO), however I am taking GENERAL BIOLOGY this semester. If I get a B or an A, will it make a difference? Thanks!

My thread is on page 40. =]

Thanks Tiffany! I’ve been looking at my course websites everyday but there is no assigned reading as of yet, which…is good I suppose lol

I have a question concerning two items…a laptop lock and a bed bug mattress protector. Do you think any of these are necessary?

Thanks again :D

Hello everyone! Second to last week before I stop taking questions…I think I’m going to miss this thread! Anyways, last week was midterm week…and in two more weeks, Session C will be over and I will finally get some much needed vacation time!!! Without further blabbing…

To Calile63: I would keep looking, it never hurts, just make sure you note the quarters that they are requesting the student. If it says Summer Quarter, don’t apply…if it says Fall Quarter/Winter Quarter/Spring Quarter, then do so!

To nooriebee: I’m going to be very very honest with you. If you want to drop your GPA, take his class, lol. His class is like no other. I haven’t taken it, but I’ve heard stories. I mean Psychology 100A isn’t bad…a lot of people exaggerate about it, but he…they don’t exaggerate, LOL. I recommend you not taking him! Just my opinion tho!

To CalDud: My opinion…is that it will hurt you. Having a friend in admissions, I can tell you very honesty that you wouldn’t even pass the first round. Basically, the student workers separate applicants into different files, depending on GPAs, and other things. I think you should wait…as hard as that sounds, but it would be better for your case. I mean, don’t get me wrong, if you want to try, you may try, nothing is stopping you. That’s just my opinion of course! Good luck to you!

To PsychBruin: Yes that will, at least I think so. General Biology is more difficult than Intro, so shoot for that A, and I’m sure they will pay attention to that! Good luck!

To aninstance: You are much too eager to get Fall Quarter started and I don’t think you should be, LOL. Just kidding! Don’t worry, the professor will sent out an announcement if they post the syllabus up or if there is a need to read before class (which I doubt)!
I’m not sure if you read this somewhere on the thread, but I had a close friend of mine get some of her stuff stolen. It was an iPad and her iPhone, luckily the phone was found and was returned, but her iPad is gone…I would just be extra careful. Realize these things happen, I forgot if you told me where you were staying on campus? Are you staying on campus? (lol). I recommend the laptop lock if you have in a shared bathroom, or maybe if you’re around people you don’t know–you never know for certain if those people bring guests over and they could go in through your stuff…
As for the mattress thing…don’t think it’s necessary…unless you don’t wash your bedding for a month or something…:expressionless: hahaha! Hope this helps!

Thank you RheeL3! Good luck at UCLA! =]

Hi all,

Because I am leaving tomorrow for a week, I won’t be able to answer anymore questions from tomorrow forward. I cannot believe I have answered 41 pages of questions, but I hope it was not only beneficial for you all incoming transfer students but also hope that it is a good reference point to the transfer students of the future!

Anyways…I just wanted to give a little tip for all the Psychology/Psychobiology majors out there taking 100A in the Fall. Review your Statistics. I know as a pre-req to get into the Psychology major, you needed to take an Intro to Statistics course. 100A goes over all of these concepts (well…most) but it might be beneficial for you all to get on top of it by reviewing those concepts. Therefore you are more prepared when it actually comes up in class. I think now it is an i-Clicker thing and an online textbook, that’s what I’ve heard, there’s pro’s and con’s to it…but I hope it will work out for the best! Don’t let all those horror stories get to you, it’s really not that bad. Stick to it! Like I said, I found that most of the concepts that I learned in my Intro to Statistics course was re-taught in 100A, and then there were some more difficult concepts…Factorial ANOVA…ughh. Also, make sure you REALLY get these concepts, because 100B builds on them.

Hope this helps! Good luck this incoming fall to all of you!

people are still going to ask, watch.

Hey Tiffany!

I know you’re not answering this thread anymore and that you’re busy with school, but in case you chance by, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful help you’ve given to everyone on CC, as well as to me  There were numerous times I felt frazzled and anxious and I would’ve continued spazzing out if not for your supportive replies lol It probably wasn’t easy to answer so many questions and to respond in such a timely and thorough manner!

Thanks again and all the best to you  <3
