i didn't mean any disrespect towards the early admits, congrats to you guys!

but i just agreed with what jl08 said regarding the general world

same here. congrats to all early admits, i'm sure you all truly deserved it!

my point was simply that i a) am obviously against affirmative action and b) i personally do not agree with wash u's method of doing things. but that in no way minimizes the accomplishments of everyone who has already gotten in.

what those two said exactly

i guess we can all move on from this argument now

So what about the Business school weekend? Should they not have a early notification weekend because some of the other schools dont? The entire point of Early notification and Multicultural weekend is to recruit highly qualified people from different ethnicities, so that the campus can be more diverse. Had I gotten my acceptance from Wash U on the same day as my notifications from the Ivies (assuming I get in one), Wash U would not be very high on my priority list. I'm sure that applies to everyone else (if Wash U isn't their first choice), not just other Ivy league applicants or other minorities. Now lets say I don't pay as much attention to my Wash U admittance and invitation to the weekend, because I got in my first choice. I choose not to go to the MC weekend, and possibly not to the school either. There is obviously a smaller amount of qualified minorities than there are otherwise. If 30 caucasions reject Wash U, the overall diversity of the school will not be affected. If 30 minorities reject it, since such a small amount were qualified enough to be accepted anyway, it will affect the university's demographics.
Ultimately, it has to do with them trying to diversify the campus. Diverse ethnic groups, bring more attention, money, applications, ideas, guest speakers, ways of living, beliefs, etc.
I'm sorry if you don't agree or approve. But that's the way it is.

wow. if you can't let an argument go, you could at least put up a few good points. it's quite exasperating when people continue to entirely miss your point.

did i say early acceptances were wrong? no. i said early acceptance for one ONLY because s/he is a minority is wrong. (and for people who will shoot back with "so are you saying minorities aren't as qualified?" that's not what i'm saying. i'm saying culture doesn't just equal being born with a skin color doesn't equal an advantage.)

again, it all comes down to a question of morality - a point you continue to miss. you may be perfectly fine with the fact that colleges and some employers continue to take into account skin color. i'm not. there are even cases when certain ethnicities are denied jobs because the employer has to hire one of a different ethnicity to fulfill their requirements - in case they be charged with "discrimination."

i find this completely ironic.

so we're at an end.

fact is, i charge that you, and everyone like you, continue to feed prejudices and the importance of skin color. i wish to be completely done with it. i don't see the importance of skin color, and i am one who loves diversity, culture, etc. i just don't feel you can bottle such a package. i think colleges can strive to offer acceptances of different cultures and a knowledge of the world, but "recruiting" - because that's basically what YOU are calling it - isn't accomplishing such a goal.

i don't think a well balanced college means looking around and seeing a certain ratio of ethnicities or a number of people with different skin colors. i think people should be people, and as long as everything is judged fairly, the colleges will get a good mix of people.

"I'm sorry if you don't agree or approve. But that's the way it is."

greaaat point... like during the times of the civil rights movement, i guess the african americans should have just been told the same thing - that's just the way it is. saying that's the way it is has no weight at all.

again, moral disagreement. there's no winning here for either side.

I'd just like to point out, that I don't "continue" to do anything--that was my first and only post discussing my thoughts on this subject. You, however, continue to post & post & post, forcing your views over and over because can't accept the fact that people have a different reasoning & different opinions than you.
If only minority students were ACCEPTED to the college at all, there would be a problem.
Also, if ALL accepted minorities were notified early, there would be a problem.
Again, if the ONLY people notified early AT ALL were minorities, there would be a problem.
None of those are true. Many many people were notified of admittance, for many different reasons. I'm sorry you were not one of them.

Be confident in your application. If you were qualified, regardless of who else they accepted & when they accepted them, you were accepted. I was qualified, I was accepted. At the end of the day, regardless of when you find out, accepted students are accepted students.

So basically, all we can say is you have your opinion, I have mine, and obviously Wash U has theirs. It is wonderful that such a "diverse" range of opinions exist. I, however, will not waste my time in this thread any longer. Best of luck in the coming two weeks.
