Any reason I didn't get notice of being accepted into the James Scholar Program?

I was accepted for Comp Engineering and on the ECE page for the James Scholar Program, it states that one qualifies for it if they have an ACT score of 33 or higher. I got a 33 and have received no notice of being considered for the program. Any ideas?

I would call and ask them. Perhaps they forgot to send it to you. Or, like perhaps getting into the program involves more than just ACT score.

We were just there Monday for an admitted students’ visit. Somebody asked a similar question and the response was that this year’s admitted class had higher test scores than ever, and that they may need to be even more selective. I think they want it to reflect the top x% of applicants. They also said notifications had already been sent. Having said this, there were a few conflicting pieces of information given, so I would still call. I think you can also apply after your first semester if you meet the GPA threshold.

I doubt having a 33 ACT would guarantee you a spot as ryegye mentioned. I know my friend got into it, but he had a 34 ACT. I believe it’s just very competitive this year.

That’s right. I have 34, but my other stats are average. So, I know I will not be one. BTW, I am not THE “one of GoIllini’s friends”. No offense. :-)

I received my notification of james scholars about a month ago. I didnt get anything close to a 30, I wish! But I got in, YAY! I hope its not too hard.

There are different threshold test scores for the different colleges. Engineering is particularly high.

I’m pretty sure a 33 guarantees acceptance into the James Scholar program. I got a 34 and had average grades (barely top 25% of my high school class) and few ECs and got accepted into it. I’ve never met or heard of someone with a 33 or higher not being accepted into it.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, its a useless program. Only thing its good for is registering for classes a few days earlier.

hmm… i got 1440 SAT (cutoff was listed at 1450) and i got in (for engineering).
