Any roaches in Wellesley dorms?

Hi,

My daughter has just accepted freshman admission at Wellesley. We recently visited and think that the campus is beautiful. I've been wondering though, a few of the dorms are very old and could have an insect problem. When I went to college years ago in Wisconsin some of the student housing had problems. My daughter is allergic to roaches and would like to know if anyone knows if there is a bug problem?

Thanks!

I certainly didn't see any roaches/hear any complaints when I was there--I have a somewhat similar problem as your daughter (I'm very allergic to certain things) and my mother and I talked with the Student Health center about getting a room that would be easiest on my allergies. They said that they did that sort of thing a lot, and made sure that girls with allergies (I remember they had a few cases of girls allergic to dust who were given rooms without carpeting and such) were taken care of. If you let the administration know, they will certainly make arrangments to make sure that your daughter will be fine : )

Thanks much for the quick reply! I'll be sure to mention my daughter's allergies on the dorm form. I'm glad to hear that they will try to work with us to get situated. One of the benefits of going to a small college I guess.

I've never seen roaches in the dorms, but there are other sorts of insects. Most custodians are happy to provide ant traps, if your daughter's room has problems with them. Other than that, I never noticed many bugs. Once or twice, I saw a weird, ghost-like bug (translucent, white, long, very fast and scared of light). On the whole, insects aren't a big problem in the dorms.

I live in Tower, where there are bugs but I don't think I've ever seen roaches. I know there's more than ladybugs, which I remember from my old Tower room. I don't see them too often, but I'm a little oblvious.

Thanks again very much for the replies. I'm not surprised that there are some bugs but I'm glad to hear that it is not a big problem. For us, roaches are the worst so I'm glad to hear that none of you have seen them.

I live in Munger, which is relatively old. Apparently we have occasional problems with ants (my room has never had any, though). Our RD is really gung-ho about getting rid of them, though. She has had an exterminator come in for the ant issues like 3 or 4 times this year...

That's the only bug-related incident I've heard of. :/
