Any schools in Cali that I could get into?

GPA – 3.1 cumulative (I had a really bad freshman year. Every semester I usually get around a 3.5 gpa. Most of my bad grades are in Spanish.)
SAT Verbal – 700, SAT Math – 620, SAT Writing – 660
ACT – 30
I am a white kid that goes to a rigorous private college prep school in Missouri. It is ranked 45th in the country. I have taken APs and other tough classes.
Sports – 2 seasons of Football, 2 Seasons of Cross Country, 4 Seasons of Wrestling (Captain Senior Year), 4 Seasons of Track and Field
Theater – I have been in 5 plays, and will be in two more next year. I plan on pursuing theater in college. I am talented at it and I have won various awards for theater.
Clubs – Alcohol Prevention Team
I was suspended for two weeks during my sophomore year in high school. On a team wrestling trip my team and I were caught drinking because I had a seizure from all the alcohol I drank. I had the seizure because of some bad head injuries that I had just finally healed from. To show my appreciation to the school for not kicking me out I became a founding member of the Alcohol Prevention Team. Our goal is to promote campus sobriety.
Planned Major – I plan on doubling majoring in History and Theater. I have had all As in history.
Other things to consider – I will write my essays about how I lost 105 lbs. and about the drinking scandal. I will get some great recommendations and I am a very skilled interviewee.
Thanks for the help!

Really? Nobody?

You have a chance at Occidental, Pitzer, and Pepperdine.

I couldn’t get into UCSD and UCSB?

Try this thread

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/707436-new-3-0-3-3-gpa-parents-thread.html

I am not a B student.

I’m not sure about “B”, but its about GPA’s of 3.0 to 3.3. I understood yours was 3.1 soooo… sorry if I misundeestood. BTW, most of the parents are describing kids with good standardized test scores. Also, some colleges throw out freshman year grades. Maybe your an A student except for freshman year?

I did say that I average a 3.5 not including freshman year.

You could probably get into some UC schools, but are you and your parents willing and able to pay the out of state tuition?

Other schools to consider - Santa Clara, University of San Francisco, University of San Diego, Redlands.

Redlands looks pretty cool. I think my parents would be willing to pay for UCs. We are very affluent and money is not an issue (at least they don’t say it is).

the UCs are tough out-of-state, and they use a system I believe. Occidental is a great LAC (#37 LAC by USNews) that might consider you. maybe boosting your SATs would help compensate for your gpa…

I doubt that you’d get into any of the UC schools. While UC schools don’t look at freshman year, they like OOS kids with pretty high GPA’s, and yours is on the low end compared to many OOS applicants. Considering the fact that your SAT is on the low end (in the context of many of the applicants), this really doesn’t help you at all.

Shoot for trying anyway, who knows?

So do the UCs just look at stats? They don’t consider the person at all?

Well, of course they’d consider the person d:.
But GPA is a pretty heavy factor when it comes down to it, for the UCs.

No interviews for UCs. Your gpa is not high even if you were in state. If you are so set on coming to California for college seriously consider the privates.

Still try to apply to UCM, UCR, UCSC, and UCSB. I think UCSD would be a reach since their average kid has about a 4.0 UC GPA.

It’s the same of almost all colleges. They look at the stats (GPA and SAT/ACT) before the EC or essays. They do care about the person, after they look at your stats. After all, Each UC school get tens of thousands of applications each year and they probably don’t have the time to get to know every person in detail.

Why don’t you try CSUs? They have a couple of nice schools.

My test scores are superior to a lot of the schools. ACT - I got a 30

Average scores
UCSB - 25
UC Davis - 24
UCRS - 21
UCSF - 23
UCSC - 24

WOW

they have a quota for the amount of OOS students they accept, and those students tend to have better stats than the in-state ones, so the averages are misleading for you.

Oh okay, cuz I was going to say that the average was pretty low…
