This seems to be the one audition we can find very little first-hand experience information on. The website says there "may" be sight reading. There is, apparently, a theory exam - that's very clear. Would love to know anyone's experiences? Do they let you finish your pieces? Is it rushed? How brief is the interview?

Having the scoop is so helpful! The first date is this weekend; my S goes next weekend, so hopefully someone will report. Thanks in advance.

hello i’m a music major at ucla, and i know ethno jazz studies majors, including guitarists. they DO NOT study with Kenny Burrell. The jazz faculty is great; except the downside of the program is you don’t take western classical theory second year and you have to take ethno classes.

persoanlly i got in with Cd so i don’t know about theory exams during auditions… i took mine during orientation

Interesting. If I’m not mistaken, none of the other faculty listed on the website even plays/teaches guitar. So I wonder who does teach guitar? My S emailed to ask that and a couple other questions and never received a response. Nice.

I didn’t really understand your comment “the downside is you don’t take western classical theory second year.” Are you saying that in your opinion it SHOULD be taken second year (as opposed to some other year) or that it should be taken period, and it’s not?
