I think I might register for the October 2011 ACT. Any other seniors here plan on doing the same?

I am! this is my first time taking the ACT so i am preparing. I have McGraw’s 10 practice tests, the Real ACT book, and i will be getting the Princeton Review book.
Are the McGraw’s practice tests much easier than the real thing? i am so confused.

Hi, I’m turned 13 a month ago, is a 31 a good score for the math portion for my age? How does this translate to SAT? I need to score a 730 on my SAT in October to qualify for the SET program.

Me too Nina. And jordan, i’ve got all those as well ![]()
i think mcgraw’s is easier, how much easier i don’t know.

Purephysics, seriously, just get practice books and keep doing them, or wait until you get past algebra 2… your score is very good for your age, stop begging for compliments or whatever you motive is…

and if i see your post again i’ll be reporting you for spam

I’m re-taking it for sure in October, because I haven’t done as much studying as I should have done for when I retake it in September.

im taking it in sept and in oct.

hoping for a 29+ in september, and a 30+ in october.
most colleges superscore the ACT right? and I tend to get 8s on my essays which hurts my score a bit, do colleges see my score with or without the essay?

@socalstudent3

Best of luck on getting your 30+, I hope that I can get a 28+ too! As for the essay, it is combined into the subscore of the English section so when you send out scores colleges will see your essay grade. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, because it will either keep your English score the same or possibly boost it by a point depending on how well you did.

Oh ok, that’s what i thought. Good luck to you too!

i took it last year and happened to be sick that morning, must have been the nerves or something. i got a 24… and i’ve been disappointed since. i’ve taken 4 practice tests in the past month, and got a 28,29,30 on mcgraw hill’s book, and just got a 28 on Princeton Review’s 1296, which is supposed to be harder than the real test. I know i’m capable of better, so i hope to prove that on the 10th :)

From my experience, McGraw Hill is easier than the real thing. I can score a 35 or 36 on the reading section in McGraw Hill bu on the really test I haven’t gotten over 31 in that section.

@SoCalStudent3

Not all colleges superscore (many don’t). You’ll have to check with each individual college.

I’ll be taking it in October, hoping for 30+ as lost time i got right at a 30, luckily Indiana superscores (36 reading/ 30 science/ 27 math/ 25 english)

I am. I really want a 31+! This will be my third and final ACT.

Can anyone possibly answer this:

I will be applying to lots of schools deadlines in November for early action/priority. My october ACT results won’t come in by then so I will be sending my previous best score (29). If I score better in October (let’s say 32), will the colleges I sent my applications to with the 29 ACT score let me switch that out and send them the 32 score once I receive my October results? Or probably not? Is there a rule or something?

@collegekang: They’ll see your first score when you send it in. However, they might superscore your scores (depending on the college).

I know they will definitely see the first score. But I am not necessarily asking for a superscore, simply if they will decide to recognize my October ACT if it is a higher composite? Because of course that would help me in admissions and possible merit. Would the school acknowledge the updated score when I send it to them, even though it may be a few weeks after I submitted my application?

I am!

I took the ACTs end of sophomore year and got a 34 but haven’t taken them again. Hopefully I can get the 36. Still worried about Science (which I absolutely fluked with a 35 last time but can’t manage to get above 34 now).

Good luck everyone. Also which schools superscore the ACT?

Here’s a list:

I would definitely use the Princeton ACT book! I didn’t use it at first and got a 25 composite and then a 26 composite. I then used the book about a week before and did 3 practice sections timed in each subject and I got a 30 composite. (30 math 33 reading 28 science 28 writing). I am also gonna take it again and do some more practices to see if my score will go up even if it’s by one point.

are you testing in September or October?

@nina1228 Im testing again in October. I wouldve done September but at the time I wasnt sure if I was going to take it again. And all my early action schools allow the ACT Oct test be sent so it didnt really have a negative impact.

I feel the same way. More time to prepare this way anyhow.

Im a senior and im taking it in oct for the first time. I havent practiced yet but im planning on getting the PR prep book. I took a practice test once and i got 30 so my goal is atleast 32. > <
