Those admissions statistics prove nothing. The applicant pool for OOS students is probably more qualified and self-selective. In CA, everyone and their dog applies to UCLA, but OOS, maybe only the confident and highly accomplished apply. I’m just saying it’s not enough to say 22% < 28%

USC - Low Reach
UCLA - Mid/High Reach
However, i think an essay centered around your educational construct should deliver you into both programs

USC isn’t particularly hard, but UCLA is, I’d say, a high reach. They rarely accept OOS students, but if you get your SAT’s up, they might consider you. But for our school, the average GPA accepted into UCLA is around a 4.0.

Good luck!

You have a better chance at USC than UCLA but overall, you’ve got a great chance for both. Raise your stats (testing, mainly) and you’d definitely be able to pull through on UCLA.

I think that both schools would be lucky to have you, but USC is more likely to accept you. Not that UCLA wouldnt (from what i hear they REALLY make it hard for OOSers) but i think USC would accept you. IF you can get the SAT up a little, id say both are a match.

Personally I’d say you have better odds at getting into UCLA, despite popular opinions on this thread. 4 or 5 kids applied to both, only one got into USC the rest are going to UCLA. Id say you have a good chance into getting into at least one.

Id say you are competitive for both schools, though less so for UCLA due to your OOS status. try and get SAT to 2100+ and you will have a much easier time getting in to UCLA. Your gpa and ECs are solid, but not spectacular. I would say match for USC (70%) and low reach for UCLA (35-40%).
good luck

Very good shot at UCLA and USC. your sat score is solid, and the india project will definitely factor in.
