Any success with the Common Application?

Hello everyone just wanted to put in a little on what I learned today about the common app. I was visiting my 11th Grade English teacher who wrote my letters of recommendation and I asked her how it was going from her end of the system. Apparently it’s just as worse for the teachers and she has colleagues who were getting locked out of the system just like the kids were. The advice I got was to find a sweet spot with the system. Now that the Oct 15 Early Deadline has passed the traffic has decreased immensely. I have been weary of submitting mine for fear of it getting messed up, but I just did a moment ago and everything worked smoothly. So I suggest that if anyone has a finished common app and has been waiting like I have, these next few days are going to be a great time to submit!

Good to know futuremillie - my S still have a few recommendations to get on file he’ll tell his recommenders to try again vs. giving up and mailing.

Our GC and other teachers were still having issues logging on as of late yesterday afternoon. D’s GC getting very frustrated with the whole “performing arts nonsense”. He actually used those words! Every time she has stopped by his office with another transcript request or form he is getting increasingly short with her. I am now worried he is going to “accidentally” misplace paperwork in order to decrease his work load. I sure hope things improve soon with the common app process so at least we are not worrying about that.

I have a junior. Do you think it would be wise to schedule a meeting with the GC to give her a heads up about what we have ahead of us? Not many performance majors from our school…

MTmom2015, most definitely! Way to be proactive!! Hopefully, the Common App issues will have been worked out by next year and some things will be smoother, but there will still be a lot of transcripts that have to go out!

MTMom2015, I would definitely encourage you to schedule that meeting–in the spring, obviously, when the counselors aren’t drowning in apps and decisions for current seniors! I went a step further and wrote out a timetable for my son’s counselor, including a separate list of which schools needed which recommendations and when. I work at the school, so the college counselor is also my colleague–definitely didn’t want to make his life more difficult! The info in writing is a huge help to both college counselors and recommenders and will be very much appreciated.

MTMom2015 - definitely. I did before the end of last year and provided a similar timetable as Times3. When my S finished his list of schools he sent it to the GC at the very beginning of the year. The GC had everything in by Oct 15 (actually before but a few had to be sent twice due to Common app issues), my S then sent a thank you note on how much he appreciated it.
