i know about new student orientation...but is there anything else? like perhaps one where u can spend at least part of the summer at stanford. I know one student told me about a community service type program for ppl east of the mississippi?

Two programs that I know of are SPOT and SSEA.

SPOT trips (http://spot.stanford.edu) consist of 8-10 incoming frosh each, led by 2-3 current student leaders. There are two types of SPOT trips. For wilderness trips, you guys go backpacking for a week. For community service trips, you go on a week-long trip around the Bay Area doing service work revolving around a theme like homelessness or immigrant issues (shameless plug--I will be co-leading a community service SPOT trip this summer, so sign up!). As of now, they aren't able to take everyone, so the program is open for transfers and those east of the Mississippi.

SSEA I know less about, it's some kind of 3-week program for engineers. More info here: http://soe.stanford.edu/edp/programs/ssea.html.

Anyone know when I should expect to hear back about my SSEA admission decision if I applied a few days ago?

I'm not sure deadline says July 17, 2007 and first day fo the program is August 5. Thus they must get back to us preety quickly with a decision.

I am gonna apply. Most likely this week sometime.
