Any Survivor Watchers?

I always read the Survivor recap by Dalton Ross on EW. He’s been covering the show since the first season. I agree with his take that when you introduce so many twists and idols etc, you get less time to know the people playing. Add this to a shortened season and you just don’t get to know some contestants that well at all.

The television season isn’t shortened, though. If anything, spreading the reduced time on the island across the same number of episodes should allow us to get to know the players more.

Thought it was a bit boring this week. Agree that the right person went home.

I also read Dalton Ross’s EW recaps every week. He does a great job.

Has anyone listened to Jeff P’s new podcast about the show??

I listen to No Buffs - my son got me started on it and while I’m not a sports podcast listener, I love this one.

I feel bad that Sarah is kicking herself for going home with an idol in her pocket. I wonder if she is just now finding out it was fake.

I was thinking the same thing - when did she find out it was a fake in her pocket and she could not have saved herself. I would think long before watching the episode and seeing that it was fake.

I found myself laughing with (not at) Carolyn a lot more last night. She’s got quirky facial expressions but I’m enjoying the way she tells her story.

Regarding the new idols that are only good until the entire tribe is on an island together… I imagine that they will do something where there is a merge but someone is sent to a different island. Something where it it isn’t well defined whether or not everyone is together.

Sarah said she felt much better finding out the idol was fake. I was still a bit confused as to how Carolyn and Yam Yam went from being allies to not. The Dalton Ross EW recap pointed out that the tribe should have known that the switched player had to have an idol as otherwise they would be at an insurmountable disadvantage in a brand new tribe.

Nice to have both a reward and an elimination challenge on the same night.

Because he has always been highly condescending/disrespectful to her. Always thought that he consistently and obnoxiously overestimates himself.

Good episode. I need Caroline to stick around because she is not only entertaining that if she can reign in her racing mind, she might be smart enough to get far.

Danny is really a firecracker and show off I think. Sure hope he doesn’t injure himself flipping his body all over the island!

Carson remains a fav for me.
I also am glad the surgeon made it through tonight - not sure why he felt he needed to lie about his occupation

Twofold.

  • Players often don’t want to give their occupation out of concern that they they have an advantage in education or skillset

  • If they make it to Final Tribal Council, there may be a jury bias, conscious or unconscious, as to which player really needs the money.

I’ll buy your second point. But sounds like he had already indicated in some conversations a different occupation - don’t change course in your conversations - people talk AND remember!

I don’t remember. But agreed - if you’re going to create a false persona, you need to be consistent.

His cover occupation is being a personal trainer, but a couple of weeks ago while doing a challenge puzzle that required steady hands, he volunteered to do it saying his job required steady hands. His tribe mates immediately picked up on it saying personal trainers don’t require steady hands.

His NEW tribemates picked up on it. We didn’t see the previous tribe notice it, did we?

You are probably right about that.

Because I was thinking that he must have been talking pretty loud for another tribe to hear him. Or maybe tribes aren’t as isolated from each other during challenges as it appears on TV.

Yes, I know that is what happened.
