Have you watched any of the exit interviews? I listened to a couple and was listening for Heidi to explain moves that she made and what was lost in the edit. I didn’t hear anything.
I don’t think she made any moves - that’s why she felt so pressured to build fire. Her only vote, Danny, even got her to admit he was her shield and the strategist.
Agree that she didn’t make any big moves. None of them did. I just felt like Heidi came across as boring and not in the game. Perhaps it was her edit or perhaps she really was just like that.
I don’t think Carson was the “child”. That is pretty insulting. He was running things more than the other 2 Tika, but should have gotten rid of YamYam instead of Lauren.
I think there’s an ebb and flow to likeable/unlikeable casts. A few years ago (Gen X vs. Milennials vs. ???, perhaps?) that my wife and I felt no one was very likeable at all, just a bunch of mean jerks. Then we have this year, with lots of likeables.
Let’s see what the next few seasons bring. The producers could go out and find another Russell if they feel they need a villain.
Didn’t mean for it to be insulting. He was my favorite and i think if he would have been at the final 3 could have indeed beat any of the final five.
I don’t consider the term child derogatory - even my own children when they were younger were smart and emotionally supportive - but their role to a certain point if designated with a term was “child” in the family scheme of things
This is a really good exit interview with Yam Yam. He explains a lot of his moves, thoughts and strategy.
I’m even ok with the likes of Parvati, Boston Rob, Jerri Manthey etc.
It’s interesting how the producers have changed the rules of the game over time. By mixing tribes earlier and adding various idols/advantages, they have created greater uncertainty and more opportunities for blindsides. Consequently, the finalists are often not the strongest players as the stronger players are routinely targeted, especially after the final merge.
I find myself enjoying the Amazing Race more because it is all about skill and teamwork. The challenges are varied enough that any team can be tripped up on any leg. Just make sure though that at least one of the partners can read a map and navigate!
In her defense, I think most people would think this.
I think the difference is that they are casting super fans. Heidi said that she was given flint as a birthday gift years ago. Several cast members spoke about practicing fire (with & without flint) at home. Carson obviously studied puzzles. Matthew (injured arm) and Frannie both spoke about how much they knew, had a plan, and were coached by others in how to play the game. We didn’t see it, but apparently Jamie knew the game well and was was extremely strategic.
Penn and Kim Holderness prepped and practiced TAR challenges. TAR teams have shared that they were studying previous seasons, watching podcasts and asking for advice from former contestants. Similar to Survivor, the last few seasons of TAR we’ve been shown more friendships, support and bonding between the teams.
From a societal standpoint, we have been through a lot in the past 3+ years. There has been a lot of stress and anxiety. Producers may feel that viewers want to escape that anxiety and feel a sense of connectedness in what they watch on TV.
Also in her defense, she’s Australian. I highly doubt many Americans watching Australian Survivor would understand references made on that show.
In the past returning players were viewed with a bit of awe. Don’t think Parvati could get what she wanted by batting her eyelids at guys in today’s Survivor. Boston Rob’s schtick of “nobody goes off anywhere without a chaperone” would not fly today.
Wouldn’t think that being a returning player would carry as much cachet as it used to.
I didn’t mean these actual individuals, but people with similar personalities. I’m hoping season 45 brings a bit more of a battle.
Got it. Fair enough.
Carson tweeted a video of the cast watching the premiere.
That’s so fun. A few missing but how crazy that has to be to watch it!
I thought the blonde was Carolyn, but after reading the comments below, I guess it is Heidi. When she stands up at the end, she doesn’t have any tattoos on her legs.
I thought that at first two but “she” didn’t have much reaction when Carolyn came on the screen
It’s back! Tonight.
