Son is going to visit U of AL this week (we’re from NJ). He’s not set that he’ll go there, but to get in line for honors housing, he’s got to select a dorm soon.

Anyone have a thought on the best honors dorm to chose?

Jolynne, my son is going for Ridgecreast, one of the Ridgecrests, south I think will be brand new in the fall. I didn't get to see the dorms, DH did, he said they were very posh, but a bit of a hike from campus, compared to some other colleges we had seen. Understand that it is pretty much a given that almost everyone will have car, unlike in the NE. DD is at a NE school and can barely remember how to drive.

When I was at Bama, there was a Girl’s Honor’s Dorm, though I don’t remember it’s name. Back then, there were no Honor’s Dorms other than the Mallet Assembly at Byrd Hall, which is now located somewhere else, and the Girl’s Honors Dorm. Now, there are many “Honors Dorms” with girls and guys wings. Mallet still exists so there is a good chance that the Girl’s Honors Dorm is still around. I bet you can find out on UA’s site or by calling and asking.

Does anyone know about “pulling in” someone who is not in the honors college into the honors dorms?
To me, this sounds unfair. But I have planned on rooming with a friend who is not in the honors college, but I am. I will definitely pick her over the honors dorms, but someone said it was possible for me to get honors dorms and select her as my roommate or whatever…I’m confused. This may be a dumb question. But has anyone else heard of this?

My son said that you cannot pull in someone who is not in honors. But he can pull in another honors student whose housing pick is much later. Drop a line to UA housing. They are great about responding to you quickly and with great information.
